Tie between wind waker link and twilight princess, one for simplicity sake and one for realism sake respectively.

I will cop out and say the whole game of Wind waker has some of my favorites designs overall. Moblins and Poes have really memorable designs in that game.

And favorite side character is Midna. In many ways she outshines Zelda’s appearance in her game. Her interactions with link and struggle to not become corrupted by the fused shadow is very compelling. And of course she’s our sassy shortstack queen. ::P

Ocarina Zelda is absolute favorite (sorry botw Zelda) because even though her appearance is brief, if you take into consideration *spoiler alert for a 30 year old game* that she is sheik, she has the most direct interactions with link and the overall plot until arguably, botw.

Wind waker Link is my favorite incarnation because he has such personality. And giving him a family, as opposed to previous links who were orphans, gives higher stakes to the drama. Coming back to the island during a terrible storm gives this heartbreaking scene:

There are so many moments (from majoras mask specifically) that make me tear up. But hearing the song of healing play during Pamela and her father’s reunion is a moment that sticks in my mind. It’s such a touching moment that really sells the emotional stakes, made bittersweet by the timeline reset.
