If you’re out in the Staffordshire Moorlands keep an eye out for our Nature in Your Neighbourhood (NIYN) project iNaturalist waymarkers. They’ve been installed at several places, including Cecilly Brook in Cheadle, to turn everyday walks into an opportunity to spot & share nature observations.

Nature restoration is starting at Ford Green Brook. 🥳 Access work begins 10 Aug, work starts in earnest Monday 24 August, (weather-dependent). Funded by the Environment Agency, we’ll be creating new habitats and improving the brook for wildlife, without increasing flood risk. Read more:

Nature restoration is coming to Bucknall Park! Work is set to begin soon. Access work will start any time from Monday 27 July until the project kicks off officially on Monday 17 August (weather-dependent), funded by the Environment Agency, to boost biodiversity and bring the river to life. 💧

Meet our little history maker. 🦫 Staffordshire’s first beaver born in the wild in more than 400 years! 🥳 During their first few weeks, beaver kits are incredibly vulnerable to predation, so we were cautious about sharing this news until we’d seen them above ground on our trail camera.

We’ve been keeping an exciting secret... Of the brown furry kind! 🦫 Back in spring we found signs that beavers were breeding in the wild in Staffordshire for the first time in over 400 years. One of the beavers we've been monitoring had enlarged teats, indicating she was feeding young.

It's been all go across the county on our nature reserves lately. Hats off to our Biddulph Country Park volunteers who installed 200m of fencing around one of the grazed meadows - it's been stepped in a few metres to soften the woodland edge. This is beneficial to lots of wildlife. 🐭

Over previous winters we had to remove some larch from Back Forest (The Roaches) as larch disease (Phytophthora) was affecting a number of trees. The silver lining is that this work opened up the canopy. As more light has reached the floor new saplings have grown in the gaps created.

On Fri 12 /06, someone drove onto Highgate Common between 3pm and 5pm and stole four, 12-foot metal field gates off their hinges, and a small wooden trailer. If you saw anything unusual, such as an unbranded vehicle driving around the reserve with a trailer, please let us know: 01384 221798.
