We also held our first major #StopKillingInternet partner meetup, bringing together experts from around the world (see attached images). This builds on the letter we signed back in May against the Online Safety Act. We opposed it because internet restrictions and software age checks threaten...
We have a big win! #StopKillingGames and #StopKillingInternet signed a joint letter opposing the UK government’s proposed VPN ban and we succeeded! Proud to stand alongside @mozilla.org , @proton.me @amnesty.org , Reporters Without Borders, and leading VPNs to defend a free and open internet. ...
We have a message from one of our strongest supporters: @marketkag.eurosky.social We are continuing to cook things up for you all and are making good progress. Don’t forget to write your local representative in the @europarl.europa.eu
#StopKillingGames relies on creators spreading the word and giving commentary on us like @f4mi.bsky.social, @conkerax.bsky.social, Ross Scott, and many others. We would not be here without them. Treating them as second-class voices under whoever someone else deems “trusted” is deeply concerning.
This is a grim moment for the gaming community. Sony PlayStation announced today that it will cease all physical games production in 2028. This will essentially erase legal game preservation and ownership on their platform. The ESA lied to lawmakers to bring down the POG Act ...
So, we’re quadrupling down on these statements now? Telling California Senate lawmakers that community servers are illegal and "the black market of video games" is certainly a choice. But sure, as we all know, it was likely just a misunderstanding. www.pcgamer.com/gaming-indus...
ESA updated their statement to games media, a third time after saying community servers are "the black market of video games", "illegal", and "piracy" to the California State Senate. They tripled down, updated their statement, and caused a bill to fail We wonder: What will be the consequences?
Congratulations ESA, you’ve won this round and handed us the legitimacy boost of the century by doubling down. Let's not forget that Minecraft's EULA explicitly allows for private servers, and that there is a popup warning when you try to play multiplayer saying Mojang/Microsoft is not liable
The Entertainment Software Association doubled down on community servers being illegal. In a statement to @pcgamer.com, ESA rep wrote: "Private servers infringe on the intellectual property (IP) rights of game publishers. Publishers reserve the right to exercise their rights against them."
www.senate.ca.gov/media/senate... This moment starts at 16:04 The hearing starts with the bill being discussed from 1:23 until 24:55 and voted on at 2:34:00 sbp.senate.ca.gov/system/files... This was our first attempt, in our first year, in the U.S., with a budget of $0. We're just getting started
You heard it here first, people! The ESA declared Minecraft and Call of Duty private servers illegal in today's hearing on the POG Act Read more (We're recruiting!): www.reddit.com/r/StopKillin... We also have a launch for #StopKillingTheInternet: www.reddit.com/r/StopKillin... #StopKillingGames
Even pointing out how the ESA is wrong in its arguments and interpretations of the bill would do good for the bill's path forward
We see that, but we're not asking for games to be kept running indefinitely whatsoever. Publishers can shut down games whenever, but they must do so responsibly in a way that doesn't take back rights they've sold to their customers. How that happens is up to the publisher. Several games have done so
Respectfully, you are giving an incomplete picture with some misunderstandings. Sticking with the car analogy, it's more like the clip below. We are open to dialogue and interviews to further explain our position, however! Feel free to get in touch.
We have highlights of remarks from various members of @europarl.europa.eu who support us from our latest press conference stream about the @ec.europa.eu response with messages of encouragement: @marketkag.eurosky.social as always has a great perspective on our situation
