BRAPA - British Real Ale Pub Adventure I'm visiting all 4500 pubs in the current Good Beer Guide. One pint per pub, 25 minute minimum stay. Them's the rules! Blog - simeyeveritt.wixsite.com/BRAPA
Pub 3578, Old Dunnings Mill, East Grinstead. Quality Harveys edge of town slot badger with a pub sign that makes the pub look even nicer than it is. Bar blokes ruin ‘Waiting for a Star to Fall’ by replacing heart for arse, so I’m in the thirsty slopey garden.
BRAPA Snack Alert! It is a long way to my final two pubs of this Sussex extravaganza and I even have to go back into London! Boo! So snacks to sober me up after that awful but good 6.5 IPA. 🍺
Pub 3577, Anchored in Worthing. New venue alert! But the quirky similarities of old place live on. Irish bloke asks why anyone would go to Carlisle to watch a football match. Demon headmaster in Beastie Boys shirt serves well. Beer far too strong! Long way to next pub though.
Preemptive, Foresters, Worthing. Newest micropub in a town obsessed. Can u tell I’m trying not to come back here for years? Meant to go half but barmaid’s shorts distracted me, PINT OF DAY. Place feels like work in progress. Floor mirror like that weird poet place in Worksop.
Thomas A Beckett, Worthing. Yuck. One of the most disorganised Fullers I’ve done. The twildery is off the scale. The beer tastes of library books. I’ve found a lovely side room but as the Viagra Boys sang, it ain’t enough.
Pub 3576, Fox & Finch, Worthing. Feeling sorry for itself in northern outreaches in the shadow of a handsome Fullers pub. Empty 2pm Sat. Siren Memento just as lifeless. Loos the highlight with slidey snake handle and exciting tins. Might drink rest of pint on t’ khazi!
Pre (probably post) emptive, Fynn, Worthing. Atmospheric grotto, faith in CAMRA restored! Old boys get the fish n chips in and a random lurker is offered the chance to ‘sniff a chip’. Conversation changes from Lord of the Rings to Gary Glitter and Len Fairclough.
Pub 3575, Quill, Rustington. Nondescript wine bar but loved the duo behind the bar. Almost willing me not to get the Long Man. Did I listen? No! Did I enjoy it? No. Sliver of safari wallpaper 8/10, but I wouldn’t want it in my home.
Pub 3573, Billi Tap, Billingshurst. Forgotten one from yesterday. Sunken high quality micro, where even Warwick Davis could bump his bonce on a beam. Young landlord a nice dude of Dark Star origins, sits n chats pubs with me so I let him wield the Green Stabilo of finality.
Goood morning friends from sunny Ford, everyone’s favourite mid West Sussex station interchange. ☀️ 🚂 3 ticks dahn south, then 3 more oop north to top off this mini #BRAPA break. Stay aerated , if that’s a word.
Pub 3574, Queens Head, Barns Green. Sun setting over rural West Sussex. My legs ache but a very worthwhile pub. My beer tastes like hoppy glue and the locals struggle with concepts like modernity. 9/10 carpet. Hairy bloke says rarrrr. I
Pub 3572, Welldiggers, Petworth. Main road Butcombe hole. Rare Breed so abysmal, locals let me push to return it in and staff looked embarrassed. Original a good replacement. Ale pumps are very welldigging. Bar curvature, low ceiling n cuteness make it easily forgivable.
Pub 3571, Sportsman, Amberley. A pub with a view 🤩. But I’ve made it look nicer than it feels. Painfully fussy Sussex lunchers. Badly positioned table forces queuing. Cheriton Porter the good face of Hants. Summer blouse saw ‘Andrew’ Burnham outside a Persian restaurant.
Pub 3570, Norfolk Tap, Arundel. Ancient coaching inn meets craft wanger with spider lights, Michael Jackson hits and board games. Bonding with a lady over cool breeze on our necks, you could dangle a baby out of these windows. Lady sits opposite n falls asleep. Me, boring?
Pre emptive. Lynd Cross, Horsham. Giant drunken snakes & ladders , a tatty 7/10 carpet, old blokes trying to queue when only three of us present, angsty pancake Mummy’s stop outdoors feeling like a Roman piazza. Pale Rider half drinks nice.
Happy Friday from Horsham. I’ve escaped the confines of the beautiful Swan Walk M&S, and looking for a preemptive before my train south. #BRAPA
Pub 3568, Anchor Tap, Horsham. A lovely man called Ian and his rosy cheek mate but increasingly sober Darren greeted me like I deserve (maybe), there was some Wicka chat, my indoor photos died and the beer was stout greatness .
BRAPA stat alert 🔔. 21 ticks remain in West Sussex, 67.2% of the county done. I now have more ticks in Gloucs n Cumbria meaning it is only my 10th worst English county 🤓
Pub 3564, Windmill, Littleworth. The ceiling implements represent how visitors are viewed versus locals. Molly the dog offered cigarette by Scottish Frank Carson but prefers jumping for Tik Tok air biscuits. Hophead well kept, but not a beer range I’d take around the country.
Good morning from Nutham wood in leafy West Sussex. I’m in search of the county’s answer to the Case is Altered at Five Ways. Let’s hope it is (a) just as good and (b) just as open. Enjoy your Thirsty Thursday. #BRAPA
Pre-emptive Horsham Brewery Tap. More life here. Better cask game than expected but the strong ruby mild is a touch floppy, like barman’s hair. Rug & cushion coverage 8/10. Games night involving dice and an exciting box that folds out. Happy atmos. See you tmw in t’sticks.
Pub 3562, Brolly Brewing, Horsham. Nice bloke (trust me I’m a stomach), astonishing pint of Devil’s Dyke, lack of comfort, hard working, next door decoration centre confused me by being called Brewers. No one said bye, waah.
Good evening as the sun sets over Horsham Lidl. The eggs intimidate, but I won’t be cowed. Or chickened. My aim is a late tick and maybe a pre-emptive nonsense before the last orders bells peal across this fine town. #BRAPA
Pub 3561 St Peter’s Tavern, Liverpool. Astonishing church beauty from that 1936 fruit gum pub company. Dad awestruck and is bringing his David’s here on Thursday. Must visit if you haven’t already. Having an egg n cress triple and a Capri Sun. Great day!
Pre emptive Monro, Liverpool. Great stuff. Nicked a cobweb from Mick the hat in Stoke Lyne for added bantz, higson drinks well, at the empty bar next to the keggy pumps, love this 1936 company.
Pub 3560, Love Lane, Baltic Triangle, Liverpool. Top breezy brewery of 40h birthdays. Higsons Oatmeal Stout a smooth smouldering drop. Can’t see bitter behind liver bird. Dad on hazy IPA obvs. Staff love York. Air ducts like what Prisoner CBH women die inside. Lovely.
Pub 3559, Harry Beswick. Heswall. Hydes 100%er, Dad got the baked Camembert in. Staff bored but present. Hot honey, no idea what it is. Dad left bag. Train unlikely anyway. Uber back up. What is Bidston without me in it? Loos like clean upstairs Parcel yard.
Pub 3558, Bow Legged Beagle, Heswall. My fave of this Wirral version of Ale Hub chain because empty. They love a Rat and my non Rat stout is lovely. Jacket return lady couldn’t be more scouse. Lancs crisps yummy but seem wrong on Yorks day. Man hugging in the USAaaa!
Preemptive Prense Well, Heswall. Spoons 447 feels a bit half built, or half carpetted at least. Service is slowwww with lots of w’s. Thankfully, the Jaipur is drinking like a 2025 Bognor Regis throwback … which is a compliment btw!
Pub 3557, Plasterers Arms, Hoylake. A beauty. Funny Rochdale man escapes from us to look at a secret hidden room. Pint of Purple Pheasant and Moose crisps drink n eat well. Dad thought ceiling was mesh nets but is beer mirrors. Optical illusion or drunk already?
