Church internet is down so it’s time to continue reading about the Threefold Form of the Word of God
Okay I hyperfixated on this for a few hours and adapted an accompaniment and rewrote some of the lyrics. A soprano soloist with piano or organ accompanying could sing this in place of the Psalm reading on October 8, 2028 (Proper 22C)
I might yet write an original hymn text but this morning I was working on this Psalm 137 setting:
On p. 93 he actually goes on to call it a “miracle” when “proclamation is for us not just human willing and doing… but primarily God’s own act… primarily and decisively God’s own speech.”
This from Barth I/1 p. 92 is an important reminder (however obtusely written) for those of us who preach. You are tasked to preach the Word of God, and yet, your proclamation only truly becomes the Word of God by his free decision, which we humans cannot control.
Final physical media hauls of the summer: lot of eleven assorted KLs, seven more KLs that I picked out from their website during the $5 sale, and three books I picked up at a used book store (and the St. Desmond Tutu book is signed by him)
For me this gets at one of the central dilemmas in this discourse which is that Vines is a Christian and yet the piece was written for the general public / NYT readership. In one space the argument makes sense, but groups and communities can exist for functional, non-moral reasons (like co-survival)
I wonder what a "wave offering" was. Does it just mean that instead of burning the offering they just wave it before the altar? Seems like the priest is able to own it afterwords so probably
Three years ago today I was in Jerusalem and we had this excellent tomato salad for lunch. I said “Wow this salad is so good. What’s in it?” And an Israeli guy said “Tomatoes.”
Internet unusably slow, also and probably relatedly, why am I connecting to a server in Toronto
I have never heard of this show but it sounds like the writers were very busy stuffing in everything they could!
Folks do I have the church calendar right. It's definitely right enough for the Sunday school lesson on the liturgical colors I'm teaching in the morning
If anybody would like a movie to watch, these my recs of those that are just free on Youtube
Me today: Looks like they’re doing “maintenance” this weekend, hopefully it will sort everything out Redditor 2 years ago:
