Got some cool Assault Fleet Centauri news: @alexconnolly.bsky.social recently completed an art piece for the game. Painting is untitled at this stage, but I'm very impressed with Alex's work. This is the first bit of art I've commissioned for the project and I'm really happy with it.
Remade the EWAC Corvette for AFC this morning after having a chat with @alexconnolly.bsky.social
It's not just Section 5 stuff I've been making, I also stated up the Taxmen's dropship for Assault Fleet Centauri...although I'm not sure what kind of mission you use it for in that game? The dropship was inspired by Q-ships and the Skywarden, as well as the Peacekeeper Maurauder (hence the name.)
I tried to make the NPC traits a little humorous and referential, while also telegraphing unit behaviour. You can really see this with the leader, Aileen "Firesale" Hancock. I'm trying to create enemies that setup to a certain kind of scene when used in a mission.
Here's a look at one of the basic soldiers for the team, a Tax Collector. NPCs don't roll to do things in Section 5, so there's no skill list or anything. If players don't wanna be hit, they need to take defensive actions.
I actually started this project as a way to reuse some of the writing I was doing for a hobby event. The DIY/punk focused mini games crew I'm part of is doing a decentralised campaign of Stargrave in our own setting, Sunbound. I rolled up a corpo merc squad, and knew what I had to do.
Converting 90 USD into AUD today gets us $128. Let's round that up to $130.
All right, that's a wrap folks. Didn't quite make it to our $1,000 goal but still an impressive effort. 79 bundles sold, and I guess $90 US dollars raised for NPY.
Sadly I learnt yesterday that Steve Dee of Tin Star games had passed away. Steve encouraged many Aussie game devs in their early steps into the industry. Steve's game The World Well is in our 2025 AusRPG Round Up Bundle. I think it is telling that right up to the end he was celebrating creativity.
We met our first milestone, we managed to make $100 so far. Not only is that money funding new work next year, it's also helping indigenous people in the central desert region. I'm donating my cut of the bundle to NPY Women's Council, who work to provide cultural, social, and health services.
Yesterday I had the pleasure of volunteering my time to help install a gallery exhibition. We're showcasing some work by Palestinian artists and also fundraising for the Palestinian social fund.
PAXAus kicks off this Friday and I'll be there all weekend helping to showcase independent Australian made TTRPGs. Sessions open at 11:00 a.m. and the last session of the day begins at 9:00 p.m. (or 3 p.m. on Sunday.) Come try some locally grown games, look for the ARC banner at TT RPG HQ.
I have been insanely busy lately and have pretty much forgotten to post on Blue Sky. I did a Zine fair 2 weeks ago, had my birthday the week before that, performed at a poetry night as the feature poet... All while trying to get ready for PAXAus and SXSW Sydney. And this weekend I'm doing this:
In case you missed it, I have been micro journalling my progress these last 113 days, as I try to get the QuickStart version of Assault Fleet Centauri ready for release. AFC came out in Alpha back in 2023, and this new beta version is essentially a complete mechanical rework. It drops Friday.
Someone liked this old post and I just wanna say, I did one better and got this all to fit on an A5 (half a sheet.)
Alright, second attempt at this opening is much better. Also this Paragraph fucks HARD!
I've been sick, I've been busy on other projects, but I'm still committed to this deadline. We have 30 days to go, and it's gonna be a hectic sprint!
Assault Fleet Centauri is my space ship combat RPG about an anarcho-socialist federation fighting back against imperialist aggression. The setting is inspired by star trek, the expanse, and battlestar. The mechanics draw from Black Skies For Babylon, FIST, and Super Sentinels Neo.
Wait...why does the university have an Electronic Warfare Information System? #AssaultFleetCentauri
The play test went well. The combat wasn't too busted. No major balance issues. We did find some additional rules that we'd like to add, namely If two officers are collaborating on a task, that should be a bonus dice. We also found some action economy stuff to fix. But mostly it's working.
It is playtest time. I'm actually running the game with one person who has never played the game and another who has only played older versions. Should be a good test... Let's find out if our core mechanic is broken. 92 days to go.
I redid the name tables so that now they all function as examples instead of generators, because the name generator table for GGC Navy Ships was not working well. Also did up the venusian navy ship names table. 101 days to go.
Managed to actually do the work I needed to focus on, then got to spend the afternoon on AFC. Didn't do Venus ships, instead I made ship naming tables for the 4 main factions. 106 days to go.
I managed to port the Fighter Squadron over to the new format. I decided to give it a bunch of single use tricks for trying not to die.
I got myself a countdown widget to live on my desktop. 109 days to go until the Assault Fleet Centauri Quickstart rules drop on itch. This will be the debut of the games new revamped rules set, shifting it's play focus towards fictional positioning rather than game board system mastery.
The zine market went well, lots of sales. We only had 5 zinesters tabling, but I have high hopes for future events.
Tdov was yesterday down here, so I guess these are April Fools selfies? Jokes on you, I'm actually really hot AND cool.
The clock is running down on this mutual aid bundle but you lot are doing an amazing job keeping the donations coming in. We are rapidly approaching our $2,000 goal with just a couple of hours left. itch.io/b/2897/kanak...
Where in the final 24 hours of this bundle. it would mean the world to me if you could all help me promote it. Reposts are good, But if you want to go the extra mile Make a fresh post promoting the bundle, seems to get more traction.
