A meta-analysis of six studies with 175 patients at least 3 weeks after the diagnosis of COVID-19 and 275 healthy individuals Sobrino-Relano et al. [65] found that individuals who had recovered from COVID-19 showed significant cognitive deficits compared to controls. A further systematic review of 7912 COVID-19 survivors two years after the infection reported cognitive impairment in 27.6% of the cases [66]. Finally, a systematic review of 12 cohort studies involving 2.7 million post-COVID cases and 30 million controls found a 50% increased risk for newly diagnosed AD, and 44% increase in the risk of newly diagnosed PD at 3–24 months after recovering from COVID-19. The authors suggested developing a comprehensive surveillance program for neurodegenerative diseases in recovered COVID-19 patients [67]. It should be noted that several confounding factors could not be considered in this meta-analysis, and some patients might have already suffered from AD or PD, which was unmasked or identified when these persons sought for medical help due to COVID-19

The magnitude of (+)[11C]DTBZ BPND loss in long COVID is similar to other illnesses with common pathology and symptoms, such as the ventral striatum and caudate of mild to moderate Parkinson's disease and the dorsal putamen of REM sleep behaviour disorder).23,24,26 Given the heterogeneity of long COVID, future studies in larger, similarly well-controlled cohorts would help confirm the robustness and generalisability of these findings. Such studies could also test whether interventions aimed at restoring dopamine-releasing synapses and/or augmenting tonic and phasic dopamine release in the ventral striatum, dorsal putamen, and dorsal caudate influence correlated symptoms in long COVID.

Autoimmunity: While an initial case of psychosis post-COVID responded miraculously to IVIG and showed a novel anti-neuronal antibody (15:56-17:02), a larger survey revealed no significant differences in autoantibody recognition between post-COVID recovered and Long COVID groups, indicating that many people with COVID might have autoantibodies recognizing brain tissue without symptoms (17:05-17:36).
Viral Persistence: The study found no evidence of SARS-CoV-2 antigen persistence in CSF using nucleic capsid antigen or PCR (17:39-18:05).

Plasma Markers and Brain Imaging (18:07-20:55):

A U.S. federal judge has blocked Louisiana’s proposed social media age verification law, delivering a setback to state-level efforts aimed at regulating online access for minors. The law, formally titled the Secure Online Child Interaction and Age Limitation Act, was scheduled to begin enforcement within days, despite having technically taken effect on July 2025; however, state officials agreed not to enforce it until December 19, 2025.

The legislation was passed in 2023 and would have compelled social media and content-sharing platforms, such as Meta, Reddit, Snap, YouTube, and Discord, to have age verification systems and parents’ consent policies in place. It was aimed at restricting children’s access to harmful materials on the Internet, such as pornography and other explicit material, and enhancing the level of child safety on the web.

Judge John W. deGravelles has ruled that the law had constitutional issues. He claimed that both the age verification and parental consent clauses were over- and under-inclusive, as well as criticized the statute in general for a broad definition of what constitutes a social media platform. The court said that such uncertainty posed a risk to inconsistent application and excessive load on platforms and users.

The ruling is a major victory for NetChoice, a trade association in the technology industry, that appealed the law. NetChoice claimed that the law violated First Amendment rights and posed privacy and security concerns tied to collecting sensitive identity data for access to speech online.

On the verge of the ruling, NetChoice pointed out that poorly crafted age assurance mechanisms may have unintended effects. The group cautioned that mandatory age verification, without privacy-preserving technologies, would expose users to data misuse and surveillance risks. NEW YORK – New York Attorney General Letitia James today secured more than 50 million eggs for consumers nationwide and $3.3 million from some of the nation’s largest egg producers for colluding behind the scenes to raise prices. A bipartisan multistate investigation led by the Office of the New York Attorney General (OAG) alongside the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed that Cal-Maine Foods (Cal-Maine), Versova/Centrum (Versova), and Hickman’s Egg Ranch (Hickman’s) illegally coordinated for years to influence a daily price index for eggs, which artificially increased prices for retailers and consumers throughout the country. Of the 53 million eggs obtained through the settlement, approximately 4.9 million eggs will be delivered directly to food banks and community organizations serving New Yorkers.

“When powerful corporations collude behind the scenes to raise prices, working families suffer the costs,” Attorney General James. “These egg producers manipulated the market to squeeze even more profit out of consumers and businesses. By shutting this scheme down and delivering millions of eggs to those in need, we’re sending a clear message that companies will not get away with illegal price hikes in New York.”

Some may have Löfgren syndrome, with fever, enlarged hilar lymph nodes, arthritis, and a rash known as erythema nodosum. The cause of sarcoidosis is unknown.
