Minnesota guy. "This particular activist will not stop." Sen. Chris Murphy
Politico says the upcoming Trump Coin "skirts around restrictions on living presidents gracing currency," but I read the article and it just says that: -the law says you're not allowed to do this -they're doing it anyway So by "skirt around" I guess they meant "ignore"
Does Professor Wurman want to delineate which of the law students he teaches are from unassimilated groups that lack the habits of mind that make constitutional government possible?
I think barely anyone on social media grasps the degree to which their conception of the world is shaped by their exposure to what goes viral — and therefore by the fact that certain ideas and claims and takes will reliably go viral while others reliably go nowhere
People are predictably very angry at me for expressing even a sliver of empathy for the guy. I’m sorry, but if membership your movement precludes that minimum level of humanity towards people who have done terrible things or made terrible decisions, please count me out of it.
Also, when I first moved to MN, fair food was largely traditional fries-and-cheese type stuff, with anything “ethnic” confined to the International Bazaar tucked in a corner. Over the past decade the “international” foods have taken over the fair, to everyone’s immense benefit
I don’t find it terribly unreasonable to call this language celebratory?
is there a word for strikes that “go on for a while” against another country’s military
I’d find this stuff a lot more forgivable if the people involved hadn’t entirely built their platforms around the notion that Democrats promote terrible candidates and they could easily do better
do you ever just think how fifa gave the president a cursed artifact from hell and called it a “peace prize”
Vance in 2016 seems to argue that Trump support is founded in personal despair and not, say, fascist self-indulgence. I wonder if there are any compelling counterexamples of economically comfortable Americans succumbing to fascist self-indulgence
Such a pathetic and petty way to ring in the nation’s 250th anniversary. No sense of the diversity of the American experience. No understanding of history or our civic heritage. Just blind antagonism against a group that barely exists, in a cheap mimicry of historical reactionaries.
Also, none of this will be new to any local, but the contrast here is always pretty funny
Kiros’s political career was launched by her 2023 Medium post where she endorsed replacing Israel with a single state, “under the historic Palestine.” This is not a forbidden position or anything, but it is radical, and explicitly envisions the (in her view, peaceful) destruction of modern Israel.
This is false history. The expanded CTC was only mildly popular (which is part of why its extension got blocked) and the nonrenewal didn’t appear to have almost any effect on domestic politics at the time. This surprised many people and earned a lot of commentary as it was happening.
Reading about the Colorado governor's race, which I have paid exactly zero minutes of attention to, and frankly I think I would have voted for Bennet, whose stuff looks slightly more progressive coloradosun.com/2026/06/17/p...
Here's the Eichmann of Minnesota, Ilan Wurman, arguing that the Trump administration has the right to indefinitely lock up every single undocumented immigrant in the United States. Upwards of 11 million people. morninganswerchicago.com/ilan-wurman-...
I mean come on guys, I wasn’t reading the Yu Gi Oh subreddit 8 years ago so I think it’s reasonable to assume my innocence? Unless you’re looking for a reason not to?
Do you see how, in this conversation, the claim that I misgendered someone is completely invented? And multiple people jump in to confirm it? But now I’m supposed to apologize for something I didn’t do, and the fact I don’t want to is taken as further evidence of my transphobia. Brainless
god I’m so exhausted of this nonsense. you can just ignore my (extremely normal) opinions, you do not have to go around and try to screw up my life by attacking people who “make peace” with me. leave me alone. I am not the villain you have created in your head for your own entertainment
In case you need any further evidence that the SCOTUS conservatives have microwaved their brains on right-wing media, Alito’s dissent today contains this passage where he breathlessly runs us through the perennial MAGA complaint “the votes change as you count them, which is probably fraud”
Redlining is literally the opposite of gentrification, what the supposedly anti-gentrification people want is basically “redlining, but wokely”
DC has undergone the most intense gentrification in the country; it’s one of a small handful of places where there has been extremely strong displacement pressure. And yet it’s still worth asking: how does it compare to 30 years ago? Better or worse? For lower-income people? For residents of color?
it never fails: someone says something like this, you check where they live, and it’s some rust belt metro that lost fully 50% of its population, collapsing public schools, and sky-high local taxes to cover the exodus of taxable industrial and commercial property
