It was good to meet High Commissioner Joseph Sokoine of Tanzania. We discussed how Canada and Tanzania can work together to increase economic and development partnerships, delivering prosperity in both countries. 🇨🇦🇹🇿

Following the signing of our new Free Trade Agreement with Ecuador, it was a pleasure to welcome Foreign Minister Luis Alberto Jaramillo and Ecuador's Ambassador to Canada for a tour of the House of Commons, a fitting close to a historic day for our two countries.

On August 1st, we mark Emancipation Day, the anniversary of the abolition of slavery on Canadian soil in 1834. It is an opportunity to acknowledge Canada’s history of slavery, commit to fighting inequality, and celebrate the contributions of Black Canadians to our country.

Big news for Canadian businesses! A new Strategic Exports Office is being launched to help our exporters compete and win contracts abroad. Last year alone, Canada supported over $28 billion in export success, that means more good jobs right here at home.

I joined Minister Maninder Sidhu and Ecuador’s Minister of Production, Foreign Trade and Investment, Luis Alberto Jaramillo, as Canada and Ecuador officially signed a new Free Trade Agreement. This means better access for businesses to Ecuador’s growing market, and more good jobs for Canadians. 🇨🇦🇪🇨

I was made aware of an incident of Islamophobia that took place in our community, right in front of Parliament Hill. I am proud that Canada is a nation where people—no matter if born here or immigrated—can live in peace and with freedoms.
