Here’s the response we sent to World of Game Design this morning. We’ve set a clear expectation: provide a firm production and delivery schedule by Monday, or we will move forward with our attorney to resolve the matter 🧵
Strahd may die tonight. But more than likely, it's gonna be the PCs. #OSR
I’m thrilled to be writing an adventure for Dungeoncraft's Deathbringer Kickstarter! I grabbed the Prof's first release back in 2022. His videos pulled me back to the ❤️ of old school D&D. If you live for OSR play or Shadowdark, this one’s for you 🤘🏻 kickstarter.deathbringer.com
Ryan Dancey’s take about replacing game inventors with AI at Alderac aged like milk. AEG has now parted ways with him. This is a cottage industry. Put artists and creators first. The moment we replace human creativity with AI, we lose what's special about games.
🚨Update on NOCTURNE GOTHIC HORROR OSR! This is my "what if Ravenloft x Shadowdark" with a ground-up rebuilt osr system. After 14 long months, we are approaching public playtesting. Spider00x created the character sheet to fold as a brochure for one-shots & to work as 8.5x11.
It's February, which means it's time for another update on Zweihander Reforged! Read within, some good and sad news to share. Silver lining: four adventures for you to sink your teeth into. Enjoy: www.kickstarter.com/projects/zwe...
Last year, I had the opportunity to play THESE BLOODY SAILS with Will, Zac, and Steven. Here's what happened: Cronenbergian flamingo body horror x Pirate Borg I enjoyed it. And you will too ttrpg fam. Now on KS for #ZineQuest www.kickstarter.com/projects/thi...
Time tracking in Dungeons & Dragons and other tabletop RPGs is a waste of time. The more I think about time tracking in Dungeons and Dragons and other tabletop RPGs, the less important it feels. What actually matters is session pacing. 🧵
Gatekeep your table, not the hobby. We have an ardent rule at our table: we only play D&D with people we'd hang out with beyond the game.
Shadowdark from The Arcane Library goes even harder with a command module approach. Most rules live on a single page or a single spread, and the “hero banner” up top tells you exactly what you are looking at. IMy only real gripe is the index. It needs one.
Old-School Essentials from Exalted Funeral is a perfect example. There are a bunch of reasons it just works, but a big one is that it quietly applies simple UX principles to make a pretty chunky ruleset feel clean and usable.
The Westing Game (1979) is arguably the first solo TTRPG And it's surprising that this book rarely enters the conversation when talking about Lyric RPGs or litRPGs. Also, we would not have Knives Out or Only Murders in the Building without this book 🔪
While waiting for production on Zweihander Reforged, I been working on my answer to "What if ShadowDark/OSE was rewritten into an open source Ravenloft OSR game." Enter NOCTURNE Gothic Horror OSR. And it's at 90% completion. We have been playtesting this weekly at my house for the last 1.5 yrs 🧵
You can play D&D without combat. But it sucks. Most of D&D’s game lives inside combat. Classes, subclasses, spells, feats, magic items, rests, XP, challenge math, monster design, encounter balance, resource attrition, tactical positioning. That is the engine, its design intention.
On August 1, 1981, video killed the radio star. On December 31, 2025, internet killed the video star. RIP MTV
All's I want for Christmas is for my wife to dress like she stepped out of a dELiA’s catalog circa 1996.
Kickstarter is highly-saturated in tabletop RPG games. At some point or another, the Kickstarter market for TTRPG books is going to fall out. And I'm afraid for my friends and peers in the industry who solely rely on it.
Cave A cleared out in the Keep on the Borderlands (from the D&D Starter Set)! A carrion crawler almost killed everyone. This is our kids group, ages 8-13, and one of the kiddo's dad.
