I was correct and also wrong in ways I could not have imagined! Its a tactile switch thats just wired directly into the cable but there are also resistors and a capacitor, maybe low pass filter The switch does not ground the ID pin, that would have been sensible, no it grounds D- for some reason.

Ok so this USB switch (not hub) has a mini USB connector for its control input, the control box is this black box with a button. Place your bet as to 1. What it communicates to switch between the two hosts 2.Why mini USB when they clearly already employ a USB-C connector My bet is in the comments.

The controller transplant was surprisingly easy, 2 evenings while watching some YouTube. Moving a few crimps around but otherwise plug and play, most stuff used the exact same wiring harness, most time consuming was messing with the controller settings.

I love the Bosch 12V system so much. Look at this tiny circular saw, its perfect for most stuff in a home shop situation. The brushless 12V tools esp. pack a huge punch and are at times stronger than older 18V brushed tools.

There is various "front racks" for baskets, depends on how much you plan to carry with this. Best would be a rack from the bike mfgr if they have one. Otherwise generic ones that clamp to the front post or the wheel should work too but for folding bikes they can be tougher to fit. Some versions:
