Senator Angela Alsobrooks
@alsobrooks
United States Senator for Maryland.
I am deeply saddened to learn of the loss of these brave servicemembers. Their courage and sacrifice in service to our country will never be forgotten. I’m praying for their loved ones, for the servicemembers who are injured or still missing, and for the safety of every American serving in uniform.
If you ask me, our Prince George's County seniors have the best moves in Maryland! Had the best time joining them on the dance floor at the Senior Line Dance Party! Thanks to the Parks & Rec Dept for bringing us together and creating opportunities for our seniors to stay active and connected.
Nothing beats the energy at the Prince George's County Senior Line Dance Party! It was great to join some of the coolest seniors in Maryland for a morning of music and dancing. Thank you to the Parks & Rec. Dept. for creating opportunities that keep our seniors active, connected, and thriving.
As new challenges threaten our rights and our democracy, we honor his legacy by continuing the fight for justice, equality, and the promise of America for everyone. Let’s keep making good trouble.
On the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’ passing, I’m reflecting on what it meant to stand on the Edmund Pettus Bridge, a place where ordinary people showed extraordinary courage in the pursuit of freedom.
Putin's illegal war has gone on for far too long, costing countless innocent lives. That's why I joined more than 60 of my Senate colleagues to hold those fueling Russia's war machine accountable.
Tonight, The President is giving another speech built on a lie. His goal isn't election security — it's voter suppression. John Lewis taught us that democracy only works when everyone has a voice. I'll keep fighting to protect that fundamental and sacred right.
Federal workers have endured illegal mass firings, shutdowns, and needless chaos at the hands of this Administration. No Jedi mind trick will work. I've heard from the workers whose lives were turned upside down, and I stand with our federal workforce.
Maryland is proving that so much is possible for our students when education, business, and government work together. Grateful to join NAF to discuss how we're preparing students through career pathways, workforce development, and expanded opportunities.
Less than a month after declaring victory on this unnecessary war that the President started, we're right back to blockades and strikes on Iran. This President started this war without a strategy and has no strategy to end it. Gas prices are climbing, and Americans are paying the price.
My statement after the ROAD to Housing Act officially became law without the President’s signature:
For decades, a vitamin K shot has protected newborns from life-threatening bleeding. Now, doctors are seeing more preventable tragedies as medical misinformation spreads. That's why I teamed up with Rep. Kim Schrier, urging the CDC to track vitamin K refusal and deficiency bleeding.
What an exciting morning in Dundalk! Thank you to everyone who came out for the 92nd Annual Dundalk Independence Day Parade. As we celebrated the Fourth of July, it was wonderful to be part of this cherished Maryland tradition and spend the morning with so many Marylanders.
This 4th of July carries special meaning as we celebrate our nation’s 250th year. May we honor the sacrifices that brought us here, celebrate the freedoms we cherish, and continue working together to build a stronger, more just future for all. Happy Independence Day, Maryland!
The job of the HHS Secretary is to protect the health of the American people. RFK Jr. has failed. Instead, he has caused chaos and attacked scientific expertise. Now, even the MAHA-MAGA alliance is cracking under the weight of his failed leadership.
Honored to join Ebenezer AME for Scholarship Sunday and celebrate over 40 years of investing millions in scholarships for the next generation. I shared a message from Elijah’s story: Don’t Run. Stand on truth, trust God’s direction, and lean into discomfort.
From our schools to our small businesses, TPS holders are part of what makes Maryland so strong. Yesterday’s decision abandons law-abiding people who have built their lives here and threatens Marylanders across the state. We cannot turn our backs on our neighbors when they need us most.
This week, I stood with my colleagues to call on the President to sign the bipartisan housing bill passed by the House and the Senate. Marylanders from Western Maryland to the Eastern Shore are saying: housing costs too much. We have a solution. It's time to sign the bill.
Congress passed a bipartisan, bicameral housing solution. Instead of helping families afford a home, the President threw a tantrum. The message from this White House is clear: lowering your housing costs isn't a priority.
The President promised lower costs. Instead, families are paying more for groceries, more at the gas pump, and more just to get by. The promises were cheap, while everything else got more expensive.
Happy Father's Day to all of the phenomenal fathers and father figures across Maryland. We are grateful to you. For those of us missing our fathers, today can bring both joy and longing. I'm remembering my dad with gratitude and love, and honoring the many ways in which he continues to inspire me.
What a day! Honored to attend the opening of the Obama Presidential Center and celebrate a legacy that continues to inspire the next generation of leaders and changemakers.
It was a pleasure to welcome 130 students, faculty, and chaperones from Accokeek Academy to the U.S. Capitol. I was thrilled to meet with the group and share about my work in the Senate. Always inspiring to meet the next generation of leaders!
What happened outside John Rodgers Elementary/Middle School during a preschool graduation was cruel and deeply disturbing. Schools are meant to be safe havens where children can learn and grow without fear. Maryland must be a place where families feel safe sending their children to school.
Can't deny the data. This President's economy is failing.
4.2% inflation. The highest in three years. At some point, Republicans have to stop rubber-stamping every expensive priority and start focusing on lowering costs.
Rising fuel costs are causing the price of crabs to spike. And in Maryland, we really don’t like it when you mess with crabs. This Administration seems to have unlimited money for slush funds, ballrooms, and wars with no end in sight — but no plan to lower costs for the people footing the bill.
I met with UMD Women's Basketball Coach Brenda Frese to discuss the rapidly changing landscape of college athletics. As NIL, revenue sharing, and athlete protections evolve, we need policies that support student-athletes, protect their rights, and strengthen college sports for the future.
Republicans want billions of dollars for ICE funding, slush funds, and billionaire giveaways. When it comes to lowering health care costs or helping families afford groceries, suddenly there's nothing left. That's the choice they're making.
A huge thank you to my Spring intern class for all of their hard work this semester. We were so fortunate to have such a thoughtful and dedicated group of Marylanders. Their futures are bright!
