Because everything's better with monsters. Art, musings, and Pittsburgh stuff by Matt Buchholz. He/him. No AI. Studio at 517 Greenfield Ave, open Fri-Sat, 12-5pm.
Keeping Picklesburgh open is indefensible behavior from the Downtown Partnership, especially when the City & County have cancelled all outdoor events. Part of throwing events like this is watching out for the public good; would Picklesburgh be open if a tornado or lightning storm was bearing down?
We’re so excited that Yinzilla glasses are BACK in stock! Grab one of these four color wrap-around beauties now on our website, at the Studio this Friday & Saturday from 12-5pm, or at our Pop-Up at Independent with East End Brewing on Tuesday, July 21 from 5-7pm!
I’m biased but this is the perfect combo for a sunny weekend day in Pittsburgh. Barmy NA hopped seltzer as a fresh thirst quencher, and Yinzilla IPA from East End Brewing, with a big bite of hops. Grab em both at East End Brewing in Larimer & Mt Lebo. We may have some pop-ups on the way too 👀🦖
Hey since they're essentially sold out I am reprinting my new retro YINZILLA t-shirt; let me know what color you'd like to see it printed on! Banana, Crimson, Burnt Orange, or the original light blue; click the survey below to vote! docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
Rain! Construction! Storms! Road closures! It’s, uh, quite a summer in Pittsburgh and we’ve even got construction next door to our studio on Coleman. But the other roads are clear and we’re here every Friday & Saturday from 12-5pm. Stop on in at 517 Greenfield Ave, we’d love to see you!
In other news, I am making a YINZILLA feature film, a giant big-budget spectacle! It's currently in early development, with key collaborators currently being attached. All I need is half a billion dollars.
Reminder that the studio is CLOSED, today July 4. Back at it with normal hours next week.
We’ve got free cold water in front of the Studio today at 517 Greenfield Ave for humans, dogs, and anyone else who might need it. And a reminder that we’re closed tomorrow, July 4. Stay cool and stay safe everyone!
Reading CANNERY ROW and Steinbeck is just out here explaining literally everything wrong with our current society, but in 1945
Otis and his brother Fuzz were rescued from an overcrowded shelter by Animal Friends as part of their annual Liberation Day event, where they take in animals who’ve escaped or been let go during the Fourth of July.
I actually worked at Animal Friends part-time for a while and saw up close what a great organization it is. And as discussed in a previous post, this month is also the 17th birthday of the heart and soul of Alternate Histories, Otis.
For July I’m donating 10% of all sales at the Studio to Animal Friends, whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome animals in crisis, ensure healthy pets through education, advocacy and affordable services, and inspire a community where the animal-human bond is celebrated and nurtured.
“It’s the grooviest group of go-go monster music! Combining old school surf, new school garage, and much more.” I made this playlist for Yinzilla Day, as a tribute to the surf rock as well as the monster’s heritage in 1960s Japan and beyond. alternatehistories.com/blogs/news/y...
In related news, our PRIDE WAS A RIOT stickers & tshirts raised $695 for the Transgender Law Center, so thanks to everyone who donated. We’ll be selling them again next year.
With today’s court ruling, just wanted to channel my anger and worry & sadness for trans kids into some artwork. I think about the kids we saw at Greenfield pride, including a teen who proudly asked to come on the microphone to announce that they are nonbinary. /
Hey @thebookubus.bsky.social & @alexfrompgh.bsky.social are putting on another double feature, this time Giallo July with Dario Argento's debut THE BIRD WITH THE CRYSTAL PLUMAGE and Lucio Fulci's NEW YORK RIPPER! Free and BYOB!
Otis was part of a Fourth of July rescue, which is why I decided his birthday is July 4. That’s the worst day of the year for animals to get loose because of parties, fireworks, etc.
We are closed on Saturday, July 4 for that most important of holidays: Otis’s birthday! Otis is the official quality control officer at Alternate Histories and is turning seventeen this year, so we’re taking the day off to celebrate with lots of scritchies, treats, and maybe a hot dog.
YINZILLA IPA is coming off the line at East End Brewing and debuts Saturday, June 27 3-7pm at our Studio for YINZILLA DAY! This is a West Coast style IPA with Pacific vibes and a crisp bite. Grab one this Saturday! www.facebook.com/events/14821...
Actual footage of me trying to plan an event around the whims of Pittsburgh weather after chasing a deer out of my backyard at 5am so the dog could pee
It is definitely a template that everyone is using now, but these photos are 100% AI creepshows
$1.7 BILLION dollars on a new airport and yet Pittsburgh Airport is using AI to create crappy event flyers. Truly insulting.
Some of the things my dad loved: 1. Margaritas 2. Close Encounters of the Third Kind Love you Dad, and miss you.
Our In Bed by Ten Juneteenth party is TONIGHT at Spirit! HUNY XO is bringing the party with DJ FEMI & YAMEZ starting at 6pm sharp, playing music from the Black Diaspora. $15 tickets at the door, cash only, or grab your advance tickets now so you’re not left out. Proceeds benefit Sibyl's Shrine!
New Pittsburgh Dream Car just dropped (this is not mine, just wish to god it was, vintage VW bus, European version).
