Saw the sea. Dude loved the beach. Chippy supper! On Sunday, I managed a slow sedate saunter to the seaside. Weston Super Mare, Eddie! I didn't leave the car, but it was so good to leave the bloody house. Slow recovery, but hey ho.

I made this.

Colour photo of small English country style garden, with wooden fence, stonework patio and mainly whites, yellows and blues planting. A bit romantic, but not nauseating. Unseen: blackbirds raiding my cherry trees, pigeons destroying their young branches, umpteen gazillion pollinators zipping about and the strong scent of boy dog pee from our lad who's not meant to pee on thoee patio pots but absolutely loves a cheeky widdle in paved luxury.

Planted this up in our park eight years ago, in an area of just grass - I've not seen them irl since. Bees galore, Sharon tells me.

Turned out more like a brownie - we think the vegan spread was perhaps not suited to baking or, if it was, then to use less. Tasty but a bit dense and moist. No sugar other than the fruit, some crushed cashews. Needed a pinch of salt perhaps.

15 years ago yesterday I'd hiked the 30 mile horseshoe route to up Pen y Fan in Wales. I really really really miss being active.

Colour photo of a wide long and straight tarmac street. It's lined with buildings under a cloudy winter sky where a shard of hazy sunlight is almost breaking through in the distance. To our left, in the foreground, is a threey storey grey brick residency and beside this a smaller store building with drab yellow wals which have numbers graffitti'd on and metal roll shutters, currentlly closed. To the right is another grey brick building, of store fronts and a supermarket, which has a blue bicycle parked out front. There are two residential floors above this. Red lanterns are strung along the overhang. In the middle distance a white saloon car is parked facing a similar navy one. Shops and other amenity buildings line the street into the distance. The town feels almost deserted, there's just a few people going about their errands bringing some life to the otherwise cold and quiet scene.

Colour photo made amongst the back streets of a residential area of small city. Colourful washing is strung from a line that's tied between the metal bars that cover a downstairs window and a concrete lamp/power post. It's a cold winter's day with bright hazy light. The homes are two storeys high and red brick. Each has a grille of rusting metal bars for safety and security. The street is well kept, swept free of litter. The washing is mainly bedding - fuschia pink sheets with a frilly edge and one blanket with a giraffe/animal print - offering a flavour the person's home and tastes.

Colour photo of a run down street on the edge of a small town. Single storey white-washed stone workers residencies with dark grey roof tiles line a buff/grey hard park street. The whole scene feels a little abandoned, but is still home to those are working the land and light industry. The Guilin karst hills tower in the background, they're just about visible in the greys and greens through the misty wintery murk. A lone older adult male Chinese citizen is walking away from us, soon to disappear from view. He's wearing work wear, a navy cap and trousers. His purple jacket contrasts the timber-framed windows and doors of the residencies, which are painted either a rich brown or rich green. In the background a small industrial building has most of its windows smashed, exposing metal bars behind. From its roof and guttering grow lots of young green plants, self seeded from the fertile lands around.

This is just under the eaves of someone's rural/farming home, in weak mid morning winter light. Their flesh and beaks are a mix of yellow, beiges, fleshy pinks. Their skin is rich with yellowy fat. There's some clutter in the background, mostly hidden in shadow.

Colour photo made looking down a wide open hard-pack street, lined each side by 200+ year old brick and timber farm/rural housing, the colour pallette is drab whites, greys and browns. Each is still home to multi-generational families. It's winter, a near-white sky hangs frigid over the pitched roofs, tiled with slate-grey ceramic tiles and with firewalls to contain disaster. Crumbling white-grey plaster reveals dark grey brick. Atop the firewalls is a traditional ornate feature made of tiles, like a dragon or beast's head. Outside most of the homes is a neatly upended wooden long-armed barrow, wheels removed likely to protect them from the rains. Some colourful washing hangs on bamboo rails and bunting is strung along both sides of the street, most of its flags long since blown away. Two stray dogs saunter and sniff around, they're a hardy thick-fir buff-coloured breed. Two red paper lanterns hang from an entranceway that is also painted deep red. There's some burgandy street lamps and long stretched of telephone/power cables. At the far end of the street two adult female Chinese citizens are coming into view. One is pushing a toddler in a stroller, the other is carrying bags. Perhaps it's mum and grandmother home from shopping or taking his siblings to school.

This audio mirrors the well-worn and annotated printed statement she is holding, outlinging her studies in mechanical engineering and determination to improve her spoken English and progress into an exciting new world.

Colour photo of a slow moving stream at the edge of town in bright but overcast morning light, where the reflection of a karst formation rock hill reaches forwards and downwards into a soft point in the centre of the stream. This reflection enables us to see into the clear water and the rich green algae and weed submerged. The stream is lined with domestic housing on each side, brick constructions on top of hand made stone-lined walls. Some are clad and painted a buff grey or yellow, others have exposed brick. Bright green vegetation is established along the margins of the water and a willow in the background is coming into its new spring growth.

Colour photo of an engine-powered wooden hull boat moored at a sloped concrete dock in bright soft morning sun. We're looking at an estuary river which runs a rich brown-grey from the fertile lands upstream. The boat is laden with supplies, being unloaded be three adult Vietnamese people, two male one female, peharps two of whom own a store in a nearby town. The boat has a teal green wooden cabin, with a new green mattress balanced on top. Its cargo is a mix of cardboard boxes, crates and sacks. There's also a colourful mix of toys, balls and other packages - yellows, blues, oranges, greens. The woman is carefully stepping down the wooden gangway, carrying two bright orange boxes ashore. Moored beside this is a flotilla of docked boats and floating crafts, some to be used as floating trollies. These are adorned with brightly coloured plastic tarps in blue and orange, with fluttering flags also of blue, orange, red and yellow. Across the river are some huts - white and teal - and other moored craft, similarly covered with blue plastic tarp. It's an everyday scene, with beauty through a rich harmony of colours and life.

There's two dozen wooden huts/homes, each with a netted fish raising pen, for the owner/staff to stay or live in while raising the crop and fishing locally. The huts are painted any combination of blues, greens, oranges, echoing the bright yellow-orange plastic canoes that are moored neatly. A haze hangs in the air. The cast rocks of Ha Long Bay tower above the village, a verdent green. Looking closely, we can make out people going about their chores and trade, dogs, signs of life.

Colour photo made in a quiet back street in a residential area of the city. A bicycle is leaned against a stone wall, which is green-grey from the damp air. It is laden with collected domestic recyling - colourful sheets of cardboard, plastic, a sack of something soft perhaps paper or plastic bags or clothing and a faded red hard plastic tote full of items. The street is perhaps 2m wide, lined with houses, each with a balcony from which clothing and belongings hang. In the middle distance the recycling collector chats with an occupant, perhaps having become friends over the years. She is wearing a conical hat and a green long sleeve jacket. At the end of the street a young mother feeds her kid from a bowl, while he sits on a moped seat. A tree leans in overhead, offering a little shade. Washing hangs out to dry at street level, quite safe from being stolen. The drying puddle on the floor suggests someone has recently scrubbed out their yard into the street.

The stonemason isn't in the frame, but their tools suggest they will return shortly - extension cord, electric sander, electric cutter, brush - lay around. Two wooden benches sit unoccupied alongside. This work space is in the cool of the edge of the jungle, where bright dappled light shows a finished stone block in the midground and, in the distance, a stand of dozens of unfinished blocks awaiting duty.

Colour photo made late afternoon along a raised roadway (above a wetland/delta) lined by homes on stilts. These are made of colourfully painted timber - blues, oranges, greens, reds - and with rusting corugated steel roofs. A perhaps eight year old Cambodian boy stands barefoot in shorts and t-shirt pondering something in his hand, perhaps something from the village store that we can see inside, offering drinks, sweets and non perishable grovercies, or perhaps a wallet containing just enough for a small treat.

A 40-something Cambodian citizen male is carrying a hefty 25L plastic container of drinking water on his shoulder to a home on stilts that line the road along delta backwaters. He has already carried it a short distance from his moped-pulled cart, which is now half empty from deliveries on his evening round. In the mid ground are other homes on stilts, some with metal sheet roofs others with plastic tarpaulin.
