These are some of the first mockups I did in trying to establish the art style in Mina the Hollower. 🎨 The approach to tile texturing remained similar, but quite a lot changed, including the color palette. Mina's sprite hadn't been changed yet either! 🐭

Mina the Hollower Lore Drop 🐭 I modeled Frayd the bone thief's visual design on Horror from The Pagemaster, one of my favorite animated movies growing up. 😱 You may recoil, but they're both just loveable goobs trying to make friends. Have pity!
Mina Cut Content Lore 🤓✨ Originally, Newsie was a Goblin Queen. If you equipped a trinket she'd give you, Mina could see and interact with her invisible "news goblins" around the island, who would give hints about secrets. How else do you think Newsie gets all her news!? 😈
Some doodles I did of Mina before development really got started. 🐭 I gave her that ear notch, but she still had a big clown nose like the original demo sprite.

MINA IS OUT! 🐭 It hasn't sunk in yet. It's been a wild 6 years of dev and feels weird not waking up and going to my desk to pixel new sprites. Her adventure has finally come to a close for me so she could start a new one with all of you. From the bottom of my 8x8px heart--Thank You. 💟
Don't sleep on Mina's guardian casket! 🛡️ You've got shield bashes for crowd control and a high-skill parry mechanic that, when timed perfectly, negates damage while dealing massive knockback and counter-damage. 😱
Mina's battery buster is such a cool switch weapon! 💪 Blast enemies Mega Man style, then swap to bat mode and smack em to refill your ammo! 💥
The Blaststrike Maul weapon in Mina the Hollower is like that really big friend that's slow to show up, but always has your back and scares away the bullies. 💥🔨
