UNIVERSAL CHILDCARE FOR WISCONSIN

Universal childcare benefits everyone - not just parents and kids. This is infrastructure. We fund roads and bridges because the economy can't function without them. Childcare is no different — parents can't work if they can't find care. Fran's plan treats child care as the essential public good it is.

FREE OR REDUCED CHILDCARE FOR FAMILIES
Most Wisconsin families will pay absolutely no out-of-pocket costs for childcare. Families who make more money will see their spending capped on a sliding scale, hitting a maximum of the federal affordability standard of 7% (or lower, depending on the true cost of care).

*PAY CHILD CARE WORKERS WHAT THEY DESERVE
You can't have universal child care if workers are fleeing the profession. Fran's model includes increased reimbursement rates to providers and loan forgiveness programs for early childhood educators. We need to treat child care workers like the professionals they are.*

KEEP CHILDCARE CENTERS OPEN
Taking care of kids is expensive! Childcare centers exist on barebones margins and struggle to stay afloat. Fran's universal childcare policy pegs payments to the true cost of care, because we can't afford to shortchange our children.

EXPAND SUPPLY IN CHILD CARE DESERTS
70% of rural Wisconsin has nowhere near enough child care slots. Fran will invest in expanding capacity where it's needed most — not just in cities. but in the small towns [...screenshot ends here]

For an agency beleaguered by years of staffing cuts, including more than 600 losses under former mayor Adams, the baselining of these nearly 300 workers is a cause for celebration and has been a cornerstone of our advocacy for
many years.
At the same time, this investment does not change the overall headcount of the Parks Department, rightly described by Commissioner Shimamura as the City's "agency of affordability." Despite positive steps, there are no net staffing or budget gains this year and there remains a long road ahead towards funding the Parks Department at 1% of the City's overall spending — a commitment which the mayor and the majority of the Council have made time and again. City Hall - The New York City Council Progressive Caucus issues the following statement in relation to the need to fund the critical tenant protection program CityFHEPS in the FY27 budget:

"We stand committed to further funding for CityFHEPS in the FY27 budget. Every day that this program remains unexpanded, New Yorkers are forced out of homes, unable to keep up with ballooning rent. Our members have fought tirelessly to ensure this vital program reaches vulnerable tenants. We recognize this has been an extremely challenging year following Mayor Adams' fiscal mismanagement and appreciate Mayor Mamdani and Speaker Menin's work to close the deficit. But it remains short of what New Yorkers need. Thoughtful piece here by @aasthauprety.bsky.social. In particular, I appreciate this nuanced perspective on the challenge of building a multi-racial membership in DSA.

One can definitely engage in good-faith analyses of why a movement might look a certain way and how it can be more inclusive—NYC's Commie Corridor comprises gentrifying neighborhoods, it's true, and DSA members tend to be college-educated. The struggle to build a multiracial, working-class base is real and comes from both racism and prejudice as well as decades of antisocialist propaganda in the US.

But when it's actually productive criticism, it's an internal convo of committed leftists, not wreckers from the political center. (i.e., once your analysis turns into ..and that's why we shouldn't support socialism"—I will stop listening. & ) From Boggs & Boggs:

Early Voting turnout has remained steadily just under 50% of last year's; the cumulative rate through Day 8 is now 45%. It's hard to get most people to care about state government except for a brief period after something bad has happened. But now thru Tue is a big chance to make it much better.

About Eon Huntley

Eon is a father, retail worker, lifelong Brooklynite, democratic socialist and three-term PTA president. He’s running for State Assembly to win universal childcare, freeze the rent, and build a New York City every family can afford.

Eon has always been a tenant, growing up in East New York and in NYCHA’s Pink Houses. His father immigrated from Guyana while his mother is a second-generation Brooklynite. He attended New York City public schools and the Parsons School of Design before working as a fashion designer and clothing salesman. As a member of the bargaining committee for Workers United Local 340, Eon fought for and won crucial healthcare coverage for his fellow workers.

Eon guided his daughters’ school community through the COVID years as a three-term PTA president, co-founding a mobile food pantry that fed hundreds of Brooklynites every month. He and his wife Rebecca, a longtime public school teacher, have lived in Bedford Stuyvesant for 18 years.

Eon is running for State Assembly to fight for the affordable, beautiful Brooklyn we all deserve. He believes nobody should be priced out of basic human experiences like raising a family, pursuing higher education, growing old in our own homes, or even going to the doctor. Eon answers only to the voters and rejects all corporate donations. In Albany, you can trust him to fight for universal childcare, fully-funded public education, and freedom from Trump’s assaults on our civil liberties and our neighbors.
