We took an injured hedgehog in yesterday. In the night it escaped, trashed the (locked) porch, pissed on the toilet floor, shat on a towel, ate a huge portion of dog food, flipped the bowl, moved our shoes around, then climbed back into its crate and went to sleep. He's called GG Allin.
Congrats to Janine on her forthcoming new book. I got to share a few observations from my time as a second division writer on the music biz front line with The Libertines, The Strokes, The Hives etc.
It's 25 years since I stopped* drinking, my friends. (* Apart from a couple of largely fun lapses, obviously.)
11 to 16 novels in (I'm never sure how many I've written), and I still never learn just how exhausting it is finishing a novel. Every time I say "never again", but again always comes...

"Where do you get your writing ideas from?" The real answer is: when I was 17 I took LSD at a fairground. I went on the ghost train, and a strobelite was flashing, and this bald, semi-naked man painted white jumped out of nowhere onto the back of my car so I screamed and punched him in the head.

Yesterday @adellestripe.bsky.social and I spontaneously decided to get rid of a chunk of our book collection. We've given it to a pal in Halifax town centre to help her create a communal library in housing for people in drug/alcohol treatment and recovery.
A new bookshop is always cause for celebration so congratulations and good luck to Topping And Company, who opened last week in York, one of the great cities. I hope to visit very soon.
