The Midlands Rail Hub is a long-touted project of vital importance to the future of rail travel in the city and wider region. 🧵

We have just passed the 2 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the ROAD SAFETY EMERGENCY. Over that period all casualties from road collisions HAVE NOT MEANINGFULLY CHANGED staying at around 3,000 per year! We are meeting on Friday the 4th of September to honour those affected and call for meaningful improvements.

🗓️ 🗪 Did you know we have a public meeting called #6to8? It takes place on the first Monday of every month, between 6pm and 8pm at The Warehouse on Allison Street in Digbeth. There's an open agenda. See you there?

A positive day at the Moseley Village Railway station event. Great to see cross-party support from Cllrs Izzy Knowles + Tim Huxtable, & WM Mayor Richard Parker listening to residents. Speeding, blocked pavements and unreliable transport were key concerns. Residents have spoken - now we need action.

With the price of fuel going up by the week, change lanes to avoid the impact. Bus tickets are capped at £20 a week. Walking and cycling short trips is free. Fewer short car trips also means less congestion, more reliable public transport, safer and better roads, cleaner air, and healthier people.

Here is the former labour transport cabinet member responsible for declaring a road safety emergency and reducing main roads to 30mph, now in opposition, immediately calling for his own policy to be reviewed.

Re: Request for Review of 30mph Speed Limits on Key Routes
I am writing in my capacity as a local councillor and former Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport regarding the recently introduced 30mph speed limits across a number of roads in Birmingham.
These changes were implemented with the clear objectives of improving road safety, reducing collisions, and creating calmer, more liveable streets for our communities. As you will recall, it was always the intention that these speed limits would be reviewed after approximately a year in operation to assess their effectiveness.
While I recognise that many residents and stakeholders have welcomed these measures, I have also received significant feedback from residents, businesses, and road users who have raised concerns about how the limits are operating on certain dual carriageways.
In light of this, I would like to request that the review process begins with two specific routes: the Spine Road (A47 Heartlands Parkway) and Small Heath Highway. I believe it is important that this review is accompanied by a public consultation to ensure we fully capture the views and experiences of those who use these roads regularly.
It is essential that any assessment is evidence led, drawing on collision data, traffic flow analysis, and community feedback. Our shared priority must remain clear: ensuring the safety of all road users while maintaining appropriate journey times and effective road users.
Given the level of public interest and the importance of getting this balance right, I believe the review should be treated as a key priority for the new Cabinet Member responsible.
