Editorial cartoonist Pat Oliphant, who died yesterday, didn't pick favorites. Oliphant skewered the Catholic church over child sex abuse ages before The Boston Globe expose. When cartoonists were attacked over depictions of Muhammad, Oliphant imagined this hilarious cocktail party.
Yesterday, Pat Oliphant died at 90. Ordinarily I'd say there's no reason why any of you should have known the Pulitizer Prize-winning editorial cartoonist. But to those of you who post political memes and cartoons, look him up. Pat was funnier, meaner and he didn't play favorites. I loved him.
Everybody's talking about dead — or about to die — politicians. Meanwhile, somewhere in Todd Blanche's garage, in several folders hidden behind a cardboard box marked "Take to Goodwill" — those pesky files.
This is just the latest round in the White House’s battle with the media. It won’t be the last. And the fights will likely get uglier until he gets his “trophy” — a journalist behind bars.
If you took a high school typing class in the mid-to-late 20th century, odds are good you learned on a typewriter like this old Royal. And you practiced typing a version of this sentence: "Now is the time for all good men to come to the aid of their country." Well, now is the time.
Meanwhile, in several manila folders marked Family Recipes and hidden in Todd Blanche's "private time" closet, there are these pesky files ...
Maine's population is roughly 1.4 million. It's beyond ridiculous to think there's only ONE person there qualified to be a U.S. senator. Find a good candidate and do it FAST. Give that person a more thorough vetting than Platner got. Then get on with business. But first, forget this jerk.
I'm a fuddy-duddy non-fiction guy. Thanks to friends, I've explored new genres, subjects. @mattmcneilshow.bsky.social @michelemathews.bsky.social @cindyannpedersen.com @fiercemama25.bsky.social @hadas.bsky.social @ellenmeister.bsky.social @sgemmill.bsky.social @kaceykells.bsky.social 2/2
Hi guys. I love our little community. And when I can, I check out friends' podcasts and radio shows, listen to their music, read their books. The latest book just arrived today — our own Randy Fair's memoir. I'm 60 pages into it already. It's nice when social media is sorta sociable. 😃 1/2
Hilarious, Daniel!! 🤪🤣 💙@danielgamboa820.bsky.social💙 With a special thanks to David Rose and his Orchestra!!
Minutes ago, the president held Wall Street's "opening bell" from the Oval Office to announce his "Trump Accounts." Call it perfect synergy. Like everything else he does, there are more questions than answers. And it's all covered with a slimy blue-green film.
Late Sunday Fun!!! Thanx, Matt!! 💙@mattmcneilshow.bsky.social💙 Catch Matt's show on a variety of platforms! @chaserbaybe.bsky.social @filosia.bsky.social @mischamouse.bsky.social @bonez481.bsky.social @decker2000.bsky.social @kayaeger.bsky.social @billthornbro.bsky.social @plmnh.bsky.social
During President Trump's speech Saturday night, he mentioned the freedom of religion and the freedom of speech before zipping to the right to own guns. The First Amendment also includes freedom of the press and the right to assemble and protest. But he didn't mention those annoying rights.
Meanwhile, on Fox News, to celebrate the Fourth, Brian Kilmeade talked about the great crowd that didn't exist while the White House played "Start Me Up" by the Rolling Stones and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody." In true Trump tradition, it's unlikely he had permission to use ANY of that music.
Minutes ago, on CNN, fireworks filled the sky to the majestic sounds of the famed Boston Pops. At the same time, on Fox News, they played an old Elvis record while a "reporter" asked tourists "what it felt like" to be in Washington while nothing special was going on.
Ready? READY? I live for this, buddy!! I assume we have our usual digital hotdog bet!!!
Let's be clear. Nearly 2,000 people can storm the Capitol, threaten to kill a Vice President, attempt to overthrow the government and assault police officers. And they're pardoned. And may get paid. An Air Force Major can quietly protest at the same Capitol. He's arrested, his career's in jeopardy.
Oooooo, that looks delicious, Argent. Here are all the ingredients you need to make a '67 Chevy Impala, which I drove in college.
We may never know a less joyless Fourth of July. Democracy teeters on a knife's edge. A legitimate oligarch occupies our highest office. Justice is compromised. Corruption is rampant. Cruelty reigns. We're getting a ballroom. But we can change our course. Resist.
Luv, Kacey!! 💙@kaceykells.bsky.social💙 Ooooh #CanadaDay 🇨🇦 My autographed ball and photo of my childhood hero, Chicago Cubs' Ferguson Jenkins, proud son of Canada! @andrearobinson.bsky.social @plmnh.bsky.social @carlchri.bsky.social @itsbek.bsky.social @raeradford.bsky.social @kelofchgo.bsky.social
The last couple of days have been a good reminder. The midterms will decide whether we’ll have lawmakers brave enough to tackle necessary court reform. The general election will decide who gets to replace Alito and Thomas.
If it wasn't so blatantly fascist, it would still be freakin' tacky. Where did this guy learn decorating and design, a French whorehouse?
When in Muncie, Indiana — stop laughing! — stop by Concannon’s Bakery, the DisneyWorld of bakeries!! Cakes, pies, cookies and every donut imaginable!😊 One of the nice women there let me take a picture of her T-shirt.💙 You’ll love every calorie!!
Trump says E.Jean Carroll’s case against him was a case against “the United States of America.” Wrong, dumbass. America didn’t sexually violate Carroll or go on to defame her. You did, Trump. The Supreme Court has ruled. Shut up and pay the woman, Trump!!
