Former DJ, host of Permutations on WVUD 91.3FM in Newark, Delaware (ended 12/1/25); occasional reader of SF/F/H (I have a day job too which I am not here to talk about)
Harold W. Hartl: Things... And Other Things I read this vanity-published horror collection from 1973 and summarized the stories at www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I finally beat the Nebula deck on gold stake! It's taken months!!! #Balatro
This is the closest that my wife's reading interests (left) get to mine (right)
A jazz festival I can walk to in under 10 minutes! Greenbelt (Maryland) Jazz Festival, 1-7 PM today. Pictured: Brother Bill Quintet
Here is an old post of mine about Pete Turner's M.O. versus Hipgnosis (original post at burlveneer-music.tumblr.com/post/1281119...)
My friend Rod Misey died two weeks ago; he dedicated his life to playing independent rock music on WJHU, WCVT/WTMD, and WVUD, giving exposure to hundreds of bands (thousands?) over 50+ years in radio. WVUD is re-airing his final show at 1 PM EDT today; stream at 128.175.76.123:8000/stream/2/
After seeing one or two of these in the road next to every work zone for years, I finally figured out what they are: traffic cone weight rings that have become separated from their cones
A real treat this week: reading two long-awaited new books back-to-back! First Murderbot, now a new Broodcomb Press title
The infamous double-sided errata slip from Tartarus Press's 2-volume Collected Strange Stories of Robert Aickman. Still cheesed off that they published a second, corrected edition that added a novella after I had already shelled out for this edition. At least I have the novella separately.
I stumbled across a great rebranding idea for X at the NASA Goddard visitor center today
Disappointed that Nine Inch Nails and Boys Noize called their collaboration Nine Inch Noize and not Nine Inch Boys
What a strange typo to appear *twice* on a book's back cover ("hi" for "his", 1992 Carroll and Graf edition of E. F. Benson's Collected Ghost Stories)
At Washington National Cathedral for The Tallis Scholars: Miracles and Mysteries
Someone in my neighborhood still has this bumper sticker on their vehicle. I'm still pissed that a Democrat would use a logo indicating movement to the right! But given that it was Hillary Clinton, at least it was honest.
In 1976 we could order NFL-branded bags through my elementary school for some reason. I got a Seattle Seahawks bag and my best friend got a Tampa Bay Buccaneers bag, because both teams were new and new NFL teams were novel. So when the Seahawks win the super bowl my inner sixth-grader is chuffed
I FINALLY BEAT THE BLACK DECK ON GOLD STAKE!!! It's taken months! Played mostly two pair (level 8) #Balatro
