Flaming Carrot Comics T-shirt. I’m now reading The Color of Jazz, about photographer Pete Turner’s iconic album covers (mostly for the jazz label CTI), and there is an interesting contrast in methodology with the great Hipgnosis team, as described in For the Love of Vinyl. Hipgnosis (photographer Storm Thorgerson and designers Aubrey Powell and Peter “Sleazy” Christopherson) would come up with an idea for an album cover they’d been contracted to do, and they would travel to a particular place–anywhere in the world!–to set up the shot and take the photo. Turner, on the other hand, would shoot rolls of film for his own use while on assignment for advertising clients (also all over the world), building up an archive that he would dip into for subsequent album cover jobs. Not every one, but pretty much all the ones in exotic locations.

My friend Rod Misey died two weeks ago; he dedicated his life to playing independent rock music on WJHU, WCVT/WTMD, and WVUD, giving exposure to hundreds of bands (thousands?) over 50+ years in radio. WVUD is re-airing his final show at 1 PM EDT today; stream at 128.175.76.123:8000/stream/2/

So much so, the anonymous finance worker admitted, that his firm now actively avoids seeking out AI-literate STEM graduates, and opts to comb through humanities students instead.

"Orbits Interweave" exhibit at NASA Goddard

A vertical white pole with two visible bracing poles and a curved pole balanced horizontally on top of it. Shiny metal spheres hang from the end of the curved pole: a large one at one end, representing the sun, and a smaller and still smaller one at the other end, representing the Earth and moon. The moon is mostly in front of the Earth so at first glance it looks like just one sphere. If I had noticed that at the time I would have chosen a different angle 🤷‍♂️

Classic Ghost Stories From A Master Writer
Edward Frederic Benson (1867-1940) was the son of an Archbishop of Canterbury. He wrote over a hundred books during hi lifetime, including the extremely successful Mapp & Lucia novels. It was his ghost stories for which he was best known in hi day, and which represent probably his best writing.
For the first time, these stories are reprinted in one volume, bringing together material that has not been available for over 40 years.
