Oh boy, getting serious now. The labels on the boxes lie, this is a stack of ZD420d units. We've had enough revenue to do a fleet upgrade and keep our rental prices the same! I am once again very very limited on garage space. Time to sell the old stuff, yay.
3D printing success. Finally got around to finishing this drive array cage for an Intel backplane. The backplane board was like $40, but if you wanted the sheet metal that was $300. I figured I could do it myself and yes, I could. Unfortunately only 3 disks because they now cost $900 used...

In solidarity with my East Coast friends scheduled to die of heatstroke this weekend, I have taken up the task of cleaning the garage floor. It's gotten quite the accumulation of gunk and grease, so I'm using the good stuff. It helped a bit. Time for a desperately needed shower.

It took me over an hour to get this stupid little seal clamp properly installed. The shop manual makes it very clear that the tie rod boots *must* be *airtight* or it will cause problems. They literally say "zip ties won't work". Okay fine. Can't be that hard to do it right...

This is the one I just pulled out of my car at 175k. If you look closely you'll see why. While the Global C-Car platform was pretty mature by the time my car was designed, my C-Max had a particular quirk of its own: it's a hybrid. This means both a lot more torque, and also regenerative braking.
This is what the transmission mount looks like. The transmission bolts to the open spot, and the main body of the mount has a bolt going through it into the frame. That's how it works: its rubber dampens the rotation of the transmission and without allowing vibrations through. This is a new one.
Ow. The steering tie rod ends didn't want to come out, slammed my knee against the floor hard when it finally gave way. The last thing that needs to come out are the inner tie rod ends, they it's just installing all the new parts. And applying that rust converter I ordered over various surfaces...
On Sunday I plugged a little travel fan inflator thing into the USB port on my phone, thinking it might power it or at the very least my phone would refuse it. Turns out there's a third option: pretty sure it fried the port. This "detected moisture" alert is code for "something shorted bro"
I don't want to hear the work escutcheun for the next six months. One of the screws broke off and I had to drill it out of the valve housing. Managed to not destroy it and it's sealed properly instead of slowly leaking like it used to.
It is done. Grout sealed. De-scaled. Re-caulked inside and outside. Only messed it up twice. Escutcheun around the faucet is sealed properly this time, with a replacement on order because this handle is falling apart slowly. Couldn't get the mineral buildup off the glass, a problem for future me.
Here's a picture while I took a break. I don't know what this shower drain pan is made out of but I can't keep it clean. It collects gunk immediately, like it's some kind of porous composite material. Going to try to seal it with stone sealer this time.
