But Procter & Gamble, the owners for Head & Shoulders, saw this as an opportunity. Instead of being insulted by the joke, they flipped it and soon after created the real thing and sold it. A mock commercial literally became the real thing. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

When #Evolution came out, it used Head & Shoulders as the tool used to kill the aliens. However, the company did not have a product with selenium sulfide in it. The shampoo was made as a mock commercial for the film. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

(Part 2) I think this was more tied to the original horror ending as well. However, Reitman went with the funnier ending where the team is fighting a giant ameba instead. Or AKA, the giant loogie. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

The ending was originally going to go in a different direction. The ape-like creatures were supposed to become incredibly smart in just a short period of time, and then our heroes were meant to fight a super intelligent alien race. (Part 1) #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

My fellow #TLDI fans should recognize Phil Tippett's name, because he was a legendary guest star on the show when they shared his film, Mad God. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly recommend watching the movie! #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

At the time, Tippett Studio had recently worked on films like Jurassic Park and Starship Troopers. But I recognize the name mostly for his recent work, his 2021 self-directed film Mad God. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

A ton of studios were involved in this film. Phil Tippett's Tippett Studio was the primary studio that handled the visual effects for #Evolution. Sony Pictures Imageworks, PDI/DreamWorks, ADI, and KNB EFX Group also worked on the special effects. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

I'm so glad they went with this idea for Moore's character. A happy accident that made her character so endearing. Plus, Allison is incredibly smart and a bad ass! #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

On the 1st day of filming, Julianne Moore tripped on a step. Instead of it becoming a blooper, she had a better idea. She talked with Reitman about making Allison more clumsy, & these funny mishaps would add to the humor of the film. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

Most of the monsters/aliens in #Evolution were created with state of the art CGI. Now you know I love a good practical effect & puppets used for horror films, but for some odd reason it doesn't bother me as much when used for comedies. I did grow up in the CGI age. #FFBMovieNight

The mall that was used for the flying alien attack was the abandoned Hawthorne Plaza Shopping Center. But for the exterior scenes, the Southbay Pavilion located in Carson, California was used. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

Seann William Scott and Ivan Reitman worked together on Road Trip, which is where he had finally come to the final decision to cast him as Wayne. Yes, the same Road Trip that Todd Phillips had directed. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

I adore both Fox and Scott, so I wonder how #Evolution would have been different with another actor. But in the end, I'm super happy that Scott was Wayne. I love him as an actor, and his crazy humor was perfect for the film! #FFBMovieNight

Michael J. Fox was offered the role of Wayne Grey, but he turned it down. At the time, he was secretly battling Parkinson's disease. Fox knew he couldn't handle the physical antics that would have been required for the job. The role went to Seann William Scott. #FFBMovieNight

Orlando Jones is my favorite character in the film, and he has by far the best lines. I truly wish he was in way more films. He is extremely talents and super funny! “There’s always time for lubricant!” #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

Bill Murray had been the original pick for Governor Lewis. But he had turned down the part. Dan Aykroyd was given the role instead, and he plays a fantastic Governor. Murray, Aykroyd, and Reitman had all worked on Ghostbusters and other films together. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

#Evolution is one of those films where it still holds its horror roots. As lighthearted as it is, it still has that little dark tone to it. One of the reasons why I love Reitman's Ghostbusters as well. Both are hilarious films, but they still have scary parts. #FFBMovieNight

Todd Phillips & Scot Armstrong had made a script about three friends who would hunt aliens. Which is where Ira Kane, Harry Block, and Wayne Grey's friendship would stem from. Phillips and Armstrong are more known for films like Old School and Road Trip. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

Reitman had communicated with Jakoby in the beginning that he wanted to change the dark tone and make it more funny. Jakoby made the joke "you mean Ghostbusters 2001" and that's how the film got its nickname. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

The ironic part is, Duchovny had no idea that the film focused on aliens. Once he got the script, it was made obvious that it was about aliens. But I'm so glad he did #Evolution. Kane is like a spoof on Mulder, and he even has perfect lines that add to this fact. #FFBMovieNight

At the time David Duchovny joined #Evolution, he was actually talking with George Lucas about possible being in the Star Wars films. Wanting to have a shift away from X-Files, he heard from Reitman about being in a comedy, and he decided to take part in it instead. #FFBMovieNight

Reitman added David Diamond and David Weissman to the crew, and they transformed Don Jakoby's horror script into a funny, sci-fi comedy. #FFBMovieNight #Evolution

Jakoby had originally written #Evolution in the 1990s, but it was meant to be a dark horror film. It had no humor. He sold it to Colombia Pictures, where Reitman first came across it. He had a completely different idea for the film, and it was turned into a comedy. #FFBMovieNight
