NYC DOT is fixing the infamous Crashland gap in the Ashland Place protected bike lane. But we also need them to fill adjacent crucial gaps in the bike lane network, so we can get to Ashland Pl safely! We are pushing with @cmcrystalhudson.bsky.social and @shahanafrombk.bsky.social to make it happen.

It was great welcoming @governor.ny.gov to Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights to stop by some of our incredible local businesses, including Books Are Magic and L’Appartement 4F, and meet some of our wonderful neighbors at the St. Charles Jubilee Older Adult Center.

It was enormously special to rename McCarren Park Field 2 after Ronnie Ortiz, Jr. Ronnie was a cornerstone of the park's softball community and was tragically taken from us by gun violence. I hope the field will remind us of his legacy of kindness, sportsmanship & joy of the game

I’m proud to have co-named Aldona Vaiciunas Way at Hudson & Evans in Vinegar Hill. Aldona was a fierce community leader & activist, protector of her neighborhood, & advocate for parks & public spaces. I hope the street sign will remind generations of neighbors of Aldona’s work.

I had so much fun celebrating Flag Day at PS 34 with @bkbpreynoso.bsky.social! The students’ songs and performances were wonderful, and it was great to see so many parents and families out celebrating. Thrilled that BP Reynoso is partnering with us on a $2M renovation of PS 34 playground.

I’m proud to have co-named Matthew Jensen Way at Driggs & Monitor in Greenpoint. Matt was a beloved PS 110 teacher, who was tragically killed in a hit-and-run on McGuinness Blvd. I hope Matt’s legacy of kindness, compassion & service inspires generations of PS 110 students.

The number of vacant NYCHA apartments has ballooned 12-fold over the last 4 years. Amid a housing crisis, this is disgraceful. @nycprogressives.bsky.social are calling for a $250 million investment to repair these units and get 20,000 New Yorkers housed in vacant NYCHA and supportive housing.

I’m very proud we honored beloved IS 318 Principal & D14 Superintendent Freddy (Fortunato) Rubino, who was tragically taken from us in 2012. We co-named Walton St & Throop outside IS 318. Freddy will always be remembered for his deep dedication to his students, teachers & community members.
