I first went to see an exhib about fashion designer Elsa Schiaperelli in Paris in 1984 with my friend Sue. It blew our minds. 42 years later at the V&A, no one else I wanted to go with. Elsa did the same all over again. Such wit & such elegance / 'collabs' with Dali and Cocteau / such influence...

Secondly, re-watched this 1973 documentary (Netflix). It’s a fascinating record and account of a time when the bohemian end of the queer community was defiantly proud, deeply stylish and not yet fully part of everyday bourgeois life.
Book 15 / 2026 Catherine Cusset – David Hockney: A Life As soon as Hockney died, I felt the need to make his biography completely clear in my mind, like my personal way of laying him to rest. I already knew all the main events, had piles of his books & seen a dozen exhibitions. What more was there?

Book 14 / 2026 Patti Smith - Bread of Angels There are many exceptional passages in this, making it an elating read for much of the time. Best not to expect a full autobiography though. Patti opens only the doors she wants to - hugely detailed childhood passages, for ex, then little until 'Horses'.
