Recorded on this day in 1983 and released the same year on his own Steam Records, ‘Stan Tracey Now’ was made to celebrate the great pianist and composer’s 40 years ‘in the business’. Featuring quartet, sextet, octet, duo and solo pieces, it’s just fabulous.

Wagner’s ‘Tristan and Isolde’ is a piece of music like no other and this concert performance at Barbican Hall tonight showed why. Great performances by soloists but the real stars for me were @londonsymphony.bsky.social under Antonio Pappano. Compelling throughout.
