I know we tend to defer to whatever a pitcher calls a pitch, but an 83 mph pitch with -1" IVB and 4" of HB is probably more like a slider (or a sweeper) than a curveball at this point, right?
Here's the full list of pitchers who reached 90 innings as a 20-year-old since 2001. "Bet on the pitcher who was good enough to debut as a 20-year-old" isn't undefeated, but there aren't many profiles with a better hit rate at the position, I'd say:
Obviously Tatis, Machado, and Merrill coming alive is the biggest reason, but the Padres are also alive in the playoff race in large part due to their ability(???) to coax really good months out of guys you thought were out of baseball.
In this case there's a distinction worth drawing: My understanding is that if a player has a meniscus "repair" they are looking at something like a six-month timeline to return If Yesavage has a chance to be back this season, it probably wasn't a repair but a debridement. Different things!
scorebugs that smush the dimensions of the broadcast should be illegal.
Olivia Rodrigo wearing a Liza Minnelli shirt to meet My Chemical Romance. She knows ball.
Nothing smart has ever been said by a person holding a lavalier mic in their hands
I don’t understand the things people choose to hate about media/culture
i wouldn't want Luis Castillo on his contract, but if you want a freely available starting pitcher and you want to spend about $20 million for the privilege, yeah, you're probably gonna end up with a Luis Castillo-type pitcher.
What’s the “joke” supposed to be here, exactly?
look, I get it, Matt Healy is annoying, the thing where every album starts with a totally skippable throwaway track (or that one weird Greta Thunberg spoken word song), and they have the worst album titles in history. But this run is, unfortunately, unimpeachable. Nobody's doing it like this.
Really disappointed that r/askhistorians didn't come through on this question for me.
these low-quality 90s youtube uploads are not doing my guy noel gallagher any favors
This might strike you as an incredibly dumb hot take, but have you considered this: Mike Trout has, in fact, yet to retire from Major League Baseball and wait the five year mandatory period before he can be considered for the Hall of Fame. Checkmate, nerds.
That is not a good spot to throw a slider to Fernando Tatis (i didn't consider that this would pick up the music I was listening to, so enjoy this excerpt of PUP's "Reservoir" as a soundtrack lol)
Super healthy workplace they’ve got going on over there where they’re making content out of this stuff
I just want people to stop making this argument. It is disingenuous. The Baseball Hall of Fame is not at all lacking in recognition of Barry Bonds and Roger Clemens’ accomplishments. Pete Rose and Shoeless Joe Jackson are featured heavily, too, in fact! Just not in one specific room!
Counterpoint: Air travel has gotten significantly better in the last 40 years in the ways that I personally care about the most.
I have no strong opinion on coffee at all and think anything short of 6 on toast is gonna be fine. but I really don't want any steak above a 3 if I can help it. If I'm serving a 4 it's because something went wrong in my cooking process.
You know, besides the whole bit about him having a "pretty high floor" I feel like I kind of nailed my skepticism around the Vlad Jr. hype this preseason. He's been so much worse than I could've imagined that I can't exactly do a victory lap here, but still, some of y'all were losing your minds.
I don’t really have a particularly strong objection to Burrow being ranked where he is, I guess, but I’m also not sure it makes much sense to have him a tier up from Dak Prescott, either?
Five first-round picks and two seconds and this is what they got out of it? Pathetic.
part of why SPRINGSTEEN ON BROADWAY hits so hard is that one of the few musical things my dad really passed on to me was that Springsteen Live box set, which was my entry way into Bruce. So yeah a lotta complicated emotionals going on there -- and I feel like Bruce would appreciate that aspect of it
The interlude in "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out" where he talks about what Clarence Clemons meant to him? That's the good stuff, that's why I'm here, Bruce www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8PO...
HELL YEAH!!!!! I'm always stunned at how quickly these sell out. Y'all rock.
Gonna be honest, I’ve been giving the Rockies a lot of benefit of the doubt this season, but the lack of doing anything at the deadline plus a Mickey Moniak extension feels very “Old Rockies” to me
