There are some bits of character lore that never show up in the book. I actually figured out exactly what town I wanted Faiza Njeri to have grown up in. It's Naivasha, Kenya.

I had a character who used sign language, but the viewpoint character could only read letters, so I punctuated it as I would if they were saying letters aloud one at a time. I think it worked for this but I might have changed things if there was a lot more ASL involved.

Woke up this morning and immediately sat down to finish the Wizard of Earthsea graphic novel. Damn, that was good. Well paced, knew when to be slow and when to be fast, knew when to just bring in narration from the novel.

How best to describe Tor Nightingale (Captain Tor Nightingale, he would be quick to correct)? He is a ringtail, approximately twenty-five years old, lean and handsome in a rakish way. But perhaps the best way to give the impression of him is to point out that at the age of fifteen, he got a genemod to add a mohawk of silver hair to the top of his head, in the fervent belief that as such hairstyle was cool, it would make him look cool by association; however, the genemod was imperfect and the mohawk constantly tipped forward over his eyes, but Tor refused to change it now out of stubbornness and the belief that should he become sufficiently cool, his hair will be cool by association. In this he has been partially successful."
