I grew up in a place with multiple WPA bridges and they are all GORGEOUS. Just stunning fancy detailed stonework and ornamentation for no other reason than to keep skilled workers employed as long as possible.

One of the five arches of the unimaginatively named Bridge Street Bridge in central Ohio, built of locally-quarried stone in 1935. It is fantastically arched and crenellated is just gorgeous; you can’t quite tell from this picture but each of the little jutting triangle pillars has stonemason’s union medallions on it. Also, it’s almost a hundred years old and still this gorgeous and sturdy.
