Dundee UCU
@ducuuo
Dundee UCU is supporting staff and saying no to job cuts at the University of Dundee. Our campaign to #SaveDundeeUni
Do your care about the University of Dundee? If you do, join us to ask the University to stop the cuts to staff, courses and community assets. We will gather peacefully on Thursday 16th July at 12:30pm outside Bonar Hall. Bring signs, and tell your friends. Spread the word!
International students are supported by the fantastic people in the English for International Students team at the University of Dundee. The team is at risk of redundancy. Listen to our student talking about how the team helped them. Then sign this petition. www.change.org/p/save-engli...
The University of Dundee is proposing to close the English for International Students unit. Graduates like Kalani Ruchitra benefitted hugely from the programme and the support of the dedicated team. Listen to Kalani’s plea to save the English for International Students team. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni
Please tell at least one person about our public meeting to save jobs at the University of Dundee. We need to reach as many people affected by the closures to courses and services. Today, 6pm, Dundee Central Library.
And a rather magnificent null points in the Working Together category. We are sure everyone on University Executive Group is unhappy with this performance and has reported themselves for potentially breaching the SFC conditions of funding.
At the start of the University of Dundee’s Strategy to Recovery process our branch officers were strongly assured that the National Community Engagement Standards would be followed. The University have achieved a Zero out of 6 for planing
Today members of the Dundee UCU branch protested against their voices not being heard. “We are disappointed to learn that a paper that Dundee UCU was invited to submit to Court for inclusion in the Court’s workshop on University’s recovery was rejected without appeal.” 1/4
Join us at the front of the Tower Building for our second and final day of industrial action this week. We’re striking to ask the University of Dundee executive to rule out redundancies. The weather is warm and sunny. How’s it with you @hwucu.bsky.social @ucuaberdeen.bsky.social Strathclyde?
Our members turned out in the wind and cold this morning to ask the University of Dundee to rule out compulsory redundancies. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni
Thanks to STV for their coverage of our long running dispute. Our branch has looked at the figures and believe that further staff cuts are unjustified and will cause irreparable damage to the University of Dundee. Join us on our picket lines today and tomorrow, all morning. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni
Today we hosted a gathering outside the University of Dundee, to coincide with the visit of Ben Macpherson MSP, Minister for Higher and Further Education. Ahead of his meeting with unions and students, the Minister took some time to come and speak to us. 1/2
Our member Jon will be on strike next week because he doesn’t want to lose any more colleagues “Over 600 colleagues have left the University recently. But it’s not just about the numbers. It’s about the friendly, dedicated people who are no longer here to research, teach and support others” #SaveHE
In August, in a meeting with the Scottish Gov, Nigel Seaton stated that it was “necessary to be clear with staff what redundancies would likely be needed now.” The University Recovery Plan he drafted stated there would need to be 340 redundancies. Yesterday he told staff there are no plans.
A great point made at the Scottish Parliament Committee. Without a growth mindset the University of Dundee will be caught in a vicious cycle of continuing job cuts, losing over 100+ jobs every year due to inflationary pressures. Why did UEG focus on a major restructuring that will not save money?
The stresses that staff have been under at the University of Dundee for 16 months are explained here by Dundee UCU Co-President, Melissa D’Ascenzio. She outlines some measures that could help relieve this stress.
Never forget that our interim Principal wrote a “recovery plan” that called for the loss of 390 more jobs. And that despite that plan be rejected by the SFC, he went to the Scottish Parliament last October to say his plans remain unchanged.
The current situation at the University of Dundee is that we are not getting our annual pay increase and that promotion processes are paused. At the same time the uni is refusing to rule out compulsory redundancies, it is advertising over 20 new senior management jobs for academic staff.
With Court agendas missing, minutes published late and papers non-existent, it’s our view that the important governance meetings at the University of Dundee should be live streamed and recorded, for openness and transparency.
Want to find out how your voice can stop job cuts at the University of Dundee? Take the first step towards having influence on what happens to you next. Come along to our Stop The Jkb Cuts rally tomorrow at the Queen’s Hotel, 12:30-13:30pm. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni
Day 2 of our strike action.Heres some photos from yesterday’s action. Come and join us if you value jobs at the University of Dundee. #SaveDundeeUni #SaveHE
Do you think staff at the University of Dundee were misled when we were told there would be no redundancies? Or when he told us they hadn’t said there would be no redundancies?
Day 1 of our 5 day strike done. Thanks to STV for coming along and interviewing members. Come and have a chat with us at the front of the Tower any day this week. news.stv.tv/north/dundee...
Very strong turnout this morning on the first of our five days strike. On Friday, in a meeting with the interim Principal, he confirmed his ideology is to cut as many jobs as possible. Support our action to save jobs and save the University! #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni #WeAreTheUniversity
The University Executive Group have not met with us to try to pause our industrial action. So, we will be out on strike from Monday 10th November to Friday 14th. Join us at the picket if you can from 8:30am each day. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni
If you missed it, here’s the interim Principal talking about substantial future job cuts at University of Dundee. He refers to the number of job losses recommended in the recovery plan. This is 390FTE with 340FTE via redundancies. We believe redundancies are not necessary. #SaveHE #SaveDundeeUni
By his own admission “the story of the University of Dundee has been leadership failure and ineffective governance oversight”. So why then was the interim Principal “focussing on other things”?
We realise that opinions can change. If you repeated a statement which no longer reflects your position, you should explain why. Stating you never made the statement in the first place is harmful as it erodes everyone’s trust.
Yesterday our interim Principal, gave evidence to the Education, Children and Young People Committee. He stated that he had never ruled out redundancies. Judge for yourself.
Our members have been voting all week. Get your ballots in as soon as you can. #SaveHE #WeAreTheUniversity
