Will have a full written review tomorrow, but before then, had a fun conversation with @liamgbillingham.bsky.social about our first reflections on Christopher Nolan’s THE ODYSSEY. Come for our review, stay for us championing Himesh Patel 📽️ Listen here: seattlemoviesdaily.beehiiv.com/podcast/s/se...
Today on @citycastseattle.bsky.social, talked lawsuits, including WA joining a dozen states suing to block Paramount from buying Warner Bros. Discovery, the Seahawks ownership shakeup, the coming-of-age movie shooting in the city next month, + more 📽️ Listen here: seattle.citycast.fm/podcasts/how...
Growing up in Washington, Cooper Tomlinson was always sneaking into horror movies. Now, with his collaborator and friend Curry Barker, he's made the breakout horror hit of the year a new generation is sneaking into. Spoke to him about it for @seattletimes.com 📽️ www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...
On @citycastseattle.bsky.social, talked death, life, the recent updates at Harbor Island Studios, what to do this weekend, and much more. Come for the thoughtful conversation, stay for Marcus leaving @janehu.bsky.social and me in stitches at the end. Listen here: seattle.citycast.fm/podcasts/jun...
The first time I saw Olivia Wilde’s THE INVITE, I liked many parts of it, but found it a hard film to fully love. Then my long-term relationship came to an end & it all clicked into place. Apologies, this is a more personal review, but couldn't be helped📽️ My review: www.inlander.com/screen/the-i...
LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE: Netflix’s adaptation of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s children’s novels offers up some admirable revisions, only to sell its characters & serious historical subjects short. The adaptions will continue until morale improves📺 My review @avclub.com: www.avclub.com/little-house...
When John Early saw Washington actor Eric Rahill in the Conner O'Malley film RAP WORLD, he knew he had to have him in MADDIE’S SECRET, saying it was like watching Chekhov. So, I talked to both Early and Rahill about comedy, sincerity, Chekhov, & their new film 📽️ www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...
🚨NEW🚨: Harbor Island Studios is back open for business. That means movie/TV productions can resume there, at least for the next year, under new operators Kirk Nordenstrom and Kris Flink. However, big questions remain about the future 📽️ My story @thestranger.com: www.thestranger.com/film-2/harbo...
Went back on TV to run down the summer movies you should keep an eye out for (THE INVITE, MADDIE’S SECRET, THE ODYSSEY, TEENAGE SEX AND DEATH AT CAMP MIASMA, THE RIVALS OF AMZIAH KING, FILIPIÑANA, & HOPE) with the lovely folks at New Day Northwest 📽️ Watch that here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgKN...
On @citycastseattle.bsky.social, talked w/ @janehu.bsky.social & Eula Scott Bynoe about if Seattle is patriotic as World Cup excitement reaches a fever pitch, all the new series ELLE gets wrong about the city, + offer some film recs for the weekend 📽️ Listen here: seattle.citycast.fm/podcasts/is-...
ELLE: The most "why does this exist?" show to ever come out in our modern IP-must-be-expanded-at-all-costs hellscape. Where the terrific LEGALLY BLONDE had Reese Witherspoon’s effervescent, whip-smart charm, this one lacks any spark or humor My review: seattlemoviesdaily.beehiiv.com/p/elle-revie...
Time marches on and, thus, here are the best new movies I've seen this year thus far. Yes, I'm aware some of these can't be seen yet, but I hope this can be considered a recommendation piece of what you should keep an eye out for in the months ahead 📽️ seattlemoviesdaily.beehiiv.com/p/best-movie...
ROSE OF NEVADA: Starring George MacKay and Callum Turner, this excellent new film from Mark Jenkin is a time travel story as only he could tell (namely, with immaculate sound design and visuals). These are my THE BOYS IN THE BOAT. Seattle folks, see it @siffnews.bsky.social📽️ My review: rb.gy/ou8r1y
Update: The Union said earlier today that they won their contract and that there will be no picket line tonight, encouraging people to come out to see them on Friday. Source: www.instagram.com/p/DaBkBssSOU...
Of course, there is also this other sacred text that, hopefully, may no longer be continually relevant if this leads to a trend 📽️
For background, this piece from @jasondashbailey.com is still a great one (though, as a warning, it also may make you want to throw up) 📽️ slate.com/culture/2022...
Netflix’s abysmal #AvatarTheLastAirbender is like if Koh the Face Stealer was an adaptation. Like that trickster, it steals the faces of the animated series, impersonating them in a futile attempt to manipulate you into feeling some sort of emotion 📺 My review: www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...
Adopting a PITT-esque structure, #TheBear closes out with a fantastic final season that's more playful and loose though also still wonderfully, humbly profound. Ayo Edebiri and Ebon Moss-Bachrach are electric. THE BEAR is dead, long live THE BEAR 📺 My review: www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...
On @citycastseattle.bsky.social talked w/ @janehu.bsky.social abt hot strike summer with Walrus and the Carpenter closing while workers picket, community rallying around @thegrandcinema.bsky.social in Tacoma after a threat this weekend, & much more 📽️ Listen here: seattle.citycast.fm/podcasts/why...
Sophy Romvari’s devastating drama BLUE HERON, 2026’s best debut, is now available on VOD. However, I recommend catching it when it opens @thegrandcinema.bsky.social Friday and returns to @siffnews.bsky.social via @grandillusioncinema.org on Saturday 📽️ My review: www.seattletimes.com/entertainmen...
UPDATE: Elizabeth Calhoun, Executive Director of The Grand Cinema, just sent out an email sharing some more information about what the impact will be on the theater this week following a threat they recieved Saturday. Specifically, they're increasing security measures and restricting bags this week📽️
A couple quick corrections/notes to the above reply: there is now some different reporting out there about when the timing of the call was (King 5 has it as being received at 8:20 p.m.) and, in regards to the lead image on the TNT story that also appears in the body this is definitely NOT The Grand📽️
The Grand Cinema in Tacoma is cancelling all showings after they recieved a verbal threat over the phone Saturday evening. Director of Operations, Pat.C Noriega, posted an update on Instagram, saying refunds will be offered for all screenings and, if you don't get one by EOD, to shoot them an email📽️
Currently need Marshawn Lynch, who got the biggest cheer at the watch party I'm currently at (Russell Wilson got loudly booed), to make a movie about someone coming to Seattle for the World Cup and getting much too high them having to navigate the city with him as their caring guide helping them out
Currently dying at the fact that the Washington State Department of Health department issued a warning to all visiting the state that our weed is VERY strong & not to be taken lightly. Be safe out there visiting soccer fans! (credit to @pgcornwell.bsky.social for sharing this hilarious nugget first)
Look at how happy he is! 📽️ www.thewrap.com/creative-con...
Love this endearingly cheesy announcement for the Oct. 16 release of THE ONLY LIVING PICKPOCKET IN NEW YORK, Noah Segan’s sleeper standout of Sundance this year starring the always great John Turturro. Go out to see it whenever it comes to a theater near you and read my review below to get ready 📽️
TOY STORY 5: For a film about the importance of imagination in modern life that does contain some frequently beautiful animated sequences which capture this, still found this sequel to be painfully unimaginative. Conan O'Brien and Joan Cusack innocent 📽️ My review: www.inlander.com/screen/revie...
