Here’s what the DOJ says the purpose of this funding is. The City of Minneapolis partnering with the federal government on a grant when this is their stated purpose of funding is a non-starter for me. Read the whole document here: lims.minneapolismn.gov/Download/RCA...

Happy Pride!! It’s a beautiful day here at Powderhorn Park for People’s Pride. We’re proud to be celebrating this weekend after we passed the historic Pride In Policy package at our last Council meeting which codified needed protections for our 2SLGBTQIA+ community. See you at the parade tomorrow!
Today at our Public Health Safety & Equity committee at 1:30 PM we have a public hearing on our bathhouse regulations ordinance. These ordinance changes are technical amendments that will end legalized homophobia that was codified when the ban was passed into law.
What a great night for the 98th annual Northeast parade!! It was so great celebrating on Central Ave with our community.
Observing ICE activity is not a crime. This is another attempt from Trump’s authoritarian regime to try and suppress free speech and dissent. But we will never stop exercising our constitutional right to legally observe the federal government’s illegal activities.
I’ll be at Bauhaus for my office hours until 7 PM tonight. Come stop by!

Tomorrow Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, RFK Jr., Dr. Oz and other federal government officials are coming to Minnesota to supposedly announce a “major law enforcement action involving fraud”. We aren’t sure what this means but want to make our community is aware of this so you can prepare.
My Ward 1 office is tabling today at the Ecuadorian Consulate resource fair. It feels good to be back here meeting constituents and connecting them to city resources. ICE tried to illegally enter the consulate back in January but were barred from entering by the brave staff who work here.

There’s been a notable increase in ICE activity the last few weeks. Today there were confirmed ICE vehicles in Columbia Heights that had been seen at the exact same spot a week earlier. There were also confirmed ICE vehicles in Marcy Holmes on Monday.

Join @jchavezmpls.bsky.social and I tonight from 5:30-7:00 PM to learn more and give feedback on our ordinance requiring 30 day notice to evict commercial tenants for non-payment of rent. This change would help businesses by matching commercial eviction requirements with residential requirements.
For the first time in years, the path forward on the future of the Cook House is clear. Recovery is ready to get to work & restore the house, but they can’t do it alone. I’ve heard from so many people about how important this is to them. Now is the time to get involved recovery.bike/johncookhouse/
Still here at 56 Brewing until 4 PM today! It’s been great seeing so many neighbors out here supporting 56 on this beautiful Saturday.
