Another Oxford cargo bike theft!! Mine is customised by having a lot of stickers and nail varnish my kids did on it. Stolen on Meadow Lane at 18.30 today locked to a Sheffield stand. Please LMK if anyone sees it for sale. Probably in Cambridge. ;)
Like this is our tree watering list. Everyone has their own guardian tree. If people go away for the week, they message everyone to do extra watering of their tree. Honestly, there's heavy local determination to keep these trees healthy. Wish us luck.

Magdalen Road Festival in full swing despite the weather: great activities and loads of street food. Have happy kids and I have a really beautiful new plant. Record number of bikes out too. Drop by if you’re out and about in East Oxford.

Well this is fascinating! Buried in the depths of the Oxfordshire Judicial Review report, an n=1,200 survey on how people got to town and to Jericho: just 9% got to central oxford by private car and just 2% to Jericho by private car. So much here! See next posts

In other news, THIS was todays party bag - a basket with a nicely wrapped range of charity shop books they could choose from. I hate party bags and LOVED this. Also 5 tern GSDs parked in the background - someone tried to take the wrong one. SO EAST OXFORD.
Hard to convey just how pleasing and East Oxford the new BMAN brewery is. Think “Missing Bean for booze”. Just by Donnington bridge. Never seen so many cargo bikes. Riverside. Grass. Guest food trucks. Hard recommend.

School Streets: I'm in a Place Scrutiny meeting and have just had an update for how School Streets are prioritised in the County. 1. Does the school want one? 2. What initiatives has it done to move towards sustainable transport? 3. Is it suitable geographically?

Delighted to go on BBC Politics South yesterday and talk about the @righttoroam.bsky.social amongst other things. Sweden has had this law of “public access to land” for decades, Scotland introduced it in 2003, its time we did the same in England.
Central Oxford today: full of people and fun and music - it’s @oxfordfolkfest.bsky.social AND Dom Whiting’s Drum & Bass on the bike. So much better to have streets for people and not just private cars. Much more still to do but progress is being made.

Happy Easter holidays everyone! I go off socials for school holidays so hope everyone has a great time and enjoys this interesting road I happened upon in Oxford’s Botley area yesterday: unadopted, 10mph.
I mean you would already have driven past this sign at 100 yds and this other sign at 50 yds - it's not light on signage. You are exactly supposed to go around the roundabout, that's the point of the multiple signs.
The headline photo is of a different bit of the roundabout, amusingly. I don't own the press! This is one of the THREE no left turn signs, there's also others as you approach the roundabout showing you should go all the way around.
One more fascinating figure from today's council - the LTCP report - car ownership per capita down 3% in Oxfordshire between 2019-2024. The LTCP report has some v. interesting figures in it actually. mycouncil.oxfordshire.gov.uk/documents/s8...

I've been wildly out-geeked by the OCC bike parking team - what is a 'Bilton mid-rail' Sheffield stand? A Manchester Bollard? Who knows but I'm glad someone does!
Good question from @bradtbaines.bsky.social on 20mph speed limit monitoring. His live supplementary question was on when this is likely to happen, I think the answer was "after the Botley Road opens" (an answer which is not uncommon)
This is a local question from @garethepps.bsky.social BUT I think it's worth reading as it's very symptomatic of the issues in getting to a bus which so many rural residents face. I mean - it's WILD that 2 miles walk to bus with no footways or lighting.
