This thread is actually quite heartening though? Hank wrote a very nuanced reflection and the subsequent comments are disproportionately amicable.

I think you are 100% correct that AI is a tool. It has its uses, but it needs to be used with care and the understanding that it's still so new and we don't quite know the full effects of it.

There’s a bug of some sort here @alexbenzer.com zick allows DMs and I’m already in a DM with him, but I get “can’t be messaged” both for direct messages as well as group chat invites. Same for a bunch of other people I’m mutual with and already in a DM with.

What the duck's a unichicken?!

Well, glad you asked. This cute and comical piece of artwork has a serious message.

Let's start with the chicken. Startups are like factory farmed chickens: we force feed them with investment capital so they can grow plump and juicy until the moment of liquidation, at which point the financial value is pulled out of them and we're left with a dysfunctional carcass of a company.

Then there's the unicorn. The whole idea with these startup chickens is that we're supposed to turn them into unicorns. In reality, however, 90% of unicorns are bleeding cash and never reach profitability. What's more, "unicorn" is actually a fancy way of saying "pension fund subsidised monopoly forming"—which has a number of detrimental effects on the economy. In the United States, ~65% of investment into Venture Capital funds comes from pension funds. So these cash-bleeding companies are spending the retirement money of taxpayers. Plus, it's very difficult for companies that rely on customer revenue to compete with (aspirant) "unicorns", which can endlessly bleed cash and still survive on the market. This deforms entire industries, causing them to evolve illogically and incorrectly. Unichicken questions both the hyper-growth model of startup incubation as well as our endless pursuit of unicorns.

We're not giving up. Digg isn't going away.

A small but determined team is stepping up to rebuild with a completely reimagined angle of attack. Positioning Digg as simply an alternative to incumbents wasn't imaginative enough. That's a race we were never going to win. What comes next needs to be genuinely different.

We're also announcing something we're excited about: Kevin Rose, Digg's founder who started the company back in 2004, is returning to join the team full-time. Starting the first week of April, Kevin will be putting his focus back on the company he built twenty+ years ago. He'll continue as an advisor to True Ventures, but Digg will be his primary focus. We couldn't think of a better person to help figure out what Digg needs to become.

I hadn't logged out so when I returned to my bsky.app tab I'm confronted with the "reactivate my account" prompt. But something isn't right in Bluesky's flow here because when I click this button it simply spins for a bit and then returns to its original state. Probably phoning the wrong server.

Much needed nuance, thank you! One thing made me uncomfortable though, as you don't seem categorically opposed to the notion of age inference. This entire class of technology is predicated on surveillance and data harvesting and should not framed with any legitimacy. www.eff.org/deeplinks/20...

Age inference includes but not limited to:

Partnering with data brokers to gather data associated with an email, like utility use or mortgage purchases, or associated with a name, such as transaction history from a credit bureau;
Other AI model-assisted deployments that infer age based on existing account or web activity, such as account age or “happy birthday” messages;
Credit card ownership checks.

So GitHub has this backlinks feature where it’ll make a visible event for when an issue elsewhere on gh references the one you’re viewing. In the Atmosphere we can be doing this for all apps, so when a a @tangled.org repo is linked from @bsky.app that’d create a two-way connection and soft ping.

Wouldn’t it be cool if your link created minimized version of this as an embed in the post so the most essential info is immediately available? Could even be interactive. (Drawing attention to it since this sort of cross-app discoverability feature seems to be a core part of the 2026 roadmap.)

I’m currently using Pocket Casts and they’ve been great, but I want a more malleable knowledge base, not just the feeds. I also want a better record-of-listens; a clear history of what I listened to when. And I want facilities for sharing my public subscriptions, along with personal taxonomies.

I’ve been wondering why I can’t save my handle in my password manager when logging into various atproto apps. Deviantart for example has a login flow that separates the username entry from the password entry. I’m still able to save that username, though technical as a ‘password’.

@martin.kleppmann.com made some further clarifications here: bsky.app/profile/mart... In short: In local-first software, the availability of another computer should never prevent you from working. Aka making apps incredible-journey-proof.

Still feels like a critically missed opportunity for @leaflet.pub to not interop with Bluesky for comments. For someone who discovered this article via leaflet itself or any medium other than *sky, there’s absolutely no sign of the generative discussion that ensued on-feed, nor its likes/shares. 🧵
