Saw my biggest boy today. Did a food shop, did a book shop (Wild Fungarium in Randolph Place - it's beautiful) and did a lunch at The Painted Cockerel which had the best Zurek I've had since I left Poland. A GOOD day.

An incredibly handsome young man outside the Gallery of Modern Art, Edinburgh, with a sign behind him which reads "There Will Be No Miracles Here". Well I beg to differ. He is one.

This is the home of Very Good Scones btw - Mellerstain House. It is the MOST charming, least 'professional stately' I've ever been to and all the better for that.

Mellerstain House near Kelso in the Scottish Borders. And I laid a particularly shitty ghost to rest too.

This little sausage made it to 21 today. God knows how.

He has since abandoned his pursuit of a career in the arts and is now an apprentice aeronautical engineer.

I don't remember where I picked this up - probably Blackwell's in Edinburgh but it is strange, raw & visceral and I'm loving the characters. I haven't read the first two books, but I shall. #booksky

Emily Noble's Disgrace by Mary Paulson-Ellis. Set in Portobello, Edinburgh it's a detectivey type book but the focus is on people who die alone and the story around them. I think. So far.

An ad hoc #WhatIsDottyWearingToday. In Labs, with my people. I'm a pain in the arse PM, but I'm THEIR PIA PM.

Me in front of the bedroom mirror wearing a man's pale blue cotton shirt altered to fit my curves and with new collar & cuffs with a pale grey Prince of Wales check linen walking skirt which was the absolute WORST to sew (loose weave on the bias grew in odd directions at an extraordinary rate of knots), still wonky hem even after several days of pinning, hanging and repinning, but is an absolute dream to wear.

I've had a couple of weeks of meh books but Permanence by Sophie Mackintosh has bucked the trend. I'm listening to it and the narrator is perfect - just the right side of lyrical without falling into "I am a narratOR" trap. Anyway I am LOVING IT. #booksky

This is another (I'm definitely going for more this autumn, I'm fascinated by them): Bonfire which has more conical heads & starts off a creamy yet slightly acidic pale green which turns a deep pink as it matures.

I finished Flashlight by Susan Choi on audiobook yesterday. One of those books that stays with you and makes you hungry to learn more. I didn't find any of the characters likeable, but that made what I learned so much more hard hitting. Strong recommend. #booksky

A needle holder, bearing the marks of several naughty pups: some I caught earlier than others. Katie (daughter of Penny), Betty, Beryl & Leo. Penny never touched it because she was the very goodest of all good girls (1975-1990? Full grown when my dad rescued her while on the beat from being thrown in a sack into the Ouse).

It is out (quiches which were the origin of the spare pastry behind waiting to be custarded & bunged into the oven). It is a rustic pie, which could fall into pasty territory if I felt that way inclined. Now deciding if I should wait for it to cool.

Did a swim. Waves/swell much higher than the picture suggests (which is mostly me anyhoo, but y'know) and I braved GIANT dinner plate sized jellyfish and did not get stang.

Me, fresh out of the sea at St Cyrus bay in Aberdeenshire at 7:30pm with two deceptively tiny looking waves breaking on the shore behind me.

I finally got us to GoLive #1. I was going to go for a swim to celebrate (or commiserate). But I was THWARTED. Arse.

A Road Closed sign taken from my car (wing mirror in view). The road ahead is a narrow single track country lane leading to the loch a mile or so behind the hospital. I got within 500m.

Did a sewing thing. Proud of the sewing thing. Of course now Insta is all over hacking men's shirts. I maintain this was a remake and not a hack.

Now and then. Jeff Banks blue & white man's shirt, XL (Vinted). Yoke, armscye and button placket are unchanged. New white collar stand and cuffs (old nightdress); side seams refitted; back darted; and wee ribbon frippery added.

#WhatIsDottyWearingToday. Up to town with my pal @polyhymnia.eurosky.social. We are going to do our thing of a spot of culture, lunch and fabric stroking. Yesterday was heatstroke and languishing; interspersed with fiddling about with the destructure & restructure of a man's shirt.
