If passed, Amendment #1 would reverse the June Supreme Court ruling giving Bayer-Monsanto and the pesticide industry immunity from state tort failure-to-warn lawsuits when their pesticides cause harm.

$North Carolina state leaders are asking a federal court to turn down what they call a “backroom deal” between the U.S. EPA and chemical manufacturer Chemours. Chemours, formerly part of DuPont, has been manufacturing chemicals in its Fayetteville plant for decades. In 2017, scientists discovered that toxic PFAS “forever chemicals” were being released from the plant into the Cape Fear River, as well as into other bodies of water from plants in West Virginia and New Jersey. More than 2,600 plaintiffs sued Chemours for polluting their drinking water wells, air, soil, and groundwater. The pollution impacted about 500,000 North Carolinians and about 10,000 private drinking wells. But plaintiffs won’t get their day in court if a proposed landmark $450 million settlement between the EPA and Chemours moves forward. It requires approval from a federal judge. “For decades, Chemours knowingly contaminated North Carolina’s air and water by discharging PFAS from its Fayetteville plant into the Cape Fear River,” Governor Josh Stein said in a statement. “Now, the EPA is cutting a deal with Chemours that does next to nothing for North Carolinians and allows polluters to choose what to clean up and where.” “Chemours and the EPA negotiated this deal behind our backs,” Attorney General Jeff Jackson said in a statement. “It does nothing to fix the decades of damage Chemours has done to our state, and it’s offensive to the people who drink this water.” CORRUPTION. This slap-on-the-wrist settlement is a mere fraction of what Chemours would be forced to pay if the trials moved forward. Chemours would absolutely lose all of the trials and be on the hook for billions, potentially even tens of billions of dollars in jury awards and cleanup costs. Study: High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) Accelerates Cancer Tumor Growth Via The Liver. The study, published in the journal Nature, highlights one way in which high levels of fructose consumption promote tumor growth. In a process called interorgan lipid transfer (when fats move between organs and tissues in the body), the liver makes fructose more available to cancer cells by turning it into nutrients in the blood they can use. High fructose intake has also been shown to contribute to the development of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), and linked to diabetes, heart disease, and colorectal cancer.

That's not all. HFCS is made from insecticidal GMO corn (corn that produces a toxic insecticide within every cell of the plant) that's doused with carcinogenic glyphosate, glufosinate, 2,4-D and/or dicamba herbicides. This toxic junk really should be illegal.

New Study: While the environmental and health harm of pesticides are well-known, many people ask: Can agriculture thrive without them? The answer, backed by a groundbreaking 10-year study in France, is a resounding YES. And the benefits extend far beyond mere feasibility. Although some pesticide-free systems yields were below those of conventional farming, some reached equivalent levels or even exceeded them. Moreover, estimated income was twice, three times or more the French national minimum wage in 80% of the monitored arable land. This 10-year study, led by France’s national agronomic and environment research institute INRAE, analyzed nine farming systems - including arable and mixed farming - across various regions of France. The trials were designed collaboratively with farmers and agricultural advisers within experimental units. They used an approach based on agroecological crop protection principles (prevention of the diseases, reliance on plant biodiversity and improvement or protection of soil health), while mineral fertilizers were allowed. The goal was to use zero pesticides while reducing biotic stress (caused by pests, fungi and weeds), with rotations that varied in duration from 5 to 9 years. Even biological pesticides were not used. Under certain conditions, pesticide-free crops matched or even surpassed conventional yields. At the Auzeville farm, pesticide-free wheat production exceeded conventional production in 2018, reaching 500 g/m² whilst the conventional version remained at around 400 g/m². The same applies to the production of other crops. For example, pesticide-free durum wheat production reached conventional levels in 2017, while pesticide-free triticale production surpassed conventional production in 2016 and 2019. Yield objectives were achieved in many site-years, even for crops whose yield performance is considered to be highly dependent on pesticides, such as rapeseed, sugar beet, and potato.

" What I learned at the agency was that even when data indicated a need for risk reduction, up to and including cancellation of a pesticide use, such actions were too often avoided. In our work assessing risk through dietary exposure to pesticides, it was not difficult to refine different levels of analyses and I learned of one case where a high-level director in the re-registration division asked if the risk numbers could be reduced. Such pressure for results that avoided restrictions on certain pesticides led me to learn that if you tell a chemical company “No” too often, you hurt your chances for promotion. During a meeting on my division’s reorganization with managers present, I commented that my proudest moments at the agency’s Office of Pesticide Programs (OPP) had been when my work supported agency negotiations with companies that led to pesticide risk reductions; but I wanted more of those moments. In 1998, frustrated by OPP’s unwillingness to cancel old, dangerous pesticides, in part due to pressures from a Republican Congress, I left for a position as research scientist with the University of Washington School of Public Health in Seattle, where I still reside. We sent a bag of Siete chips to an ISO accredited lab to test for glyphosate and AMPA, a toxic breakdown product of glyphosate. No glyphosate or AMPA residue was detected. For now. The company was bought by PepsiCo.

Siete, formerly a family-owned business, was sold to PepsiCo with the deal closing on January 17. 2025. The family remained involved with the business until about 8 months ago.

Based on the test results, it hasn't happened yet, but PepsiCo will inevitably cut the quality of the ingredients to cut costs and further boost the company's profits. We have seen this time and time again when Big Food purchases a small company with great products and a strong following.

For the time being, this is very good news for the grain-free, gluten-free, and vegan communities. But we won't let our guard down. We'll be keeping a close eye on the ingredients, watching out for changes, and we'll be retesting again next year. Crunch away! But remember, this is still a highly processed food.

Seven women filed a lawsuit against Edgewell Personal Care, Essity North America, Kimberly Clark Corporation, Procter & Gamble, Prestige Consumer Healthcare, and The Honey Pot Company. The lawsuit alleges the women suffered a range of issues, such as miscarriage, polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS), chronic heavy bleeding, and pelvic pain, due to toxic PFAS "Forever Chemicals," as well as endocrine disruptors, carcinogens, fragrances, and preservatives used in the tampons, pads and other menstrual-related products. The lawsuit specifically mentions the brands Tampax, Always, Always Discreet and L. Organic.

The women claim that the companies "failed to adequately test their products for long-term safety, failed to disclose the presence of potentially harmful chemicals, failed to provide adequate warnings regarding health risks, failed to conduct proper safety monitoring, and failed to take reasonable steps to protect consumers from foreseeable harm."

New Study: People who survived a serious heart attack were found to have higher levels of microplastics in their blood, providing early evidence that plastic pollution could be an overlooked cardiovascular threat. Researchers at the University of Campania in Italy also found that people who smoke and those exposed to higher levels of air pollution had greater levels of microplastics in their blood. Scientists detected micro- and nanoplastics – tiny plastic fragments that shed from packaging, clothing and other everyday products – in the blood supplying the heart in 84% of heart attack patients studied. In comparison, only 40% of patients with chronic ischemic heart disease and 32% of patients with normal coronary arteries were found to have micro and nanoplastics, according to the study published in the European Heart Journal.

More study on the health effects of microplastics in our bodies is needed. But we always advise precaution: Better safe than sorry. One of the best ways to reduce your exposure to microplastics is by avoiding food and beverages packaged in plastic. And never store your food and beverages in plastic. Second Tip: Many people don't know that inhalation is likely the second greatest route of exposure to microplastics. Get rid of and don't buy clothing and furniture made of synthetic fabrics such as acrylic, fleece, nylon, polyester, polypropylene, rayon (viscose), or spandex (lycra or elastane). These materials release plastic microfibers into the air that you breathe.

Katherine Levy recently moved back to live out her retirement along the lake’s north shore only to discover the government plan to spray glyphosate and 4 other toxic herbicides within national forest property that abuts the community’s cherished lake. “I was horrified to find out what has been going on,” Levy said. Levy is among a number of Lake Tahoe-area residents and officials who are fighting to block or alter the U.S. Forest Service project, which is aimed at restoration of areas damaged by the 2021 Caldor fire.

“It is a major concern for all of us,” said Cody Bass, mayor of South Lake Tahoe. “I had no clue that glyphosate was still being used in the forest. It was kind of a shock to me that we know what we know about it and still use it on public lands.”

“People come here from around the world because of its purity and natural beauty,” said Hannah Teter, who lives in the South Lake Tahoe area, close to the area affected by the Caldor fire, and works at a local wakesurfing charter company. “The idea of spraying thousands of gallons of herbicides across the Tahoe basin in an effort to dictate which species regrow after a natural wildfire is deeply troubling,” Teter said.

Despite inflation, organic produce sales are surging. It's not perfect, but organic is miles better than conventionally grown produce that contains a cocktail of toxic synthetic pesticides. To find the best of organic foods, look for any of these add-on certifications: @realorganicproject, RegenerativeOrganicCertified or Biodynamic. As well as having stricter growing standards, none of the add on labels we refer to allow hydroponic to be certified organic. Know your farmer. Eat clean. Live long and healthy. Be well. ❤

Just last month, the U.S. Supreme Court gave Bayer-Monsanto immunity from pesticide-harm lawsuits. Now Bayer is seeking approval from the EPA to expand the use of toxic isoxaflutole herbicide on millions of acres of GMO cotton.

Isoxaflutole, considered a PFAS "Forever Chemical” pesticide, is highly toxic and classified by the EPA as a probable human carcinogen. It is also linked to liver damage and developmental effects and breaks down into persistent degradates that can move through the environment and remain toxic to plants and other organisms.

Isoxaflutole is also highly volatile, drift-prone, and can travel far beyond its site of application. Allowing expanded use on genetically engineered isoxaflutole-tolerant cotton will harm neighboring farms (especially organic and non-GMO farms), rural communities, pollinators, native vegetation and trees, and aquatic ecosystems.

Maine, Minnesota, and Vermont banned cookware containing toxic PFAS. It is now illegal to sell or distribute PFAS-containing cookware within these states. If you live in these states and find PFAS-containing products being sold, contact your state regulators. Connecticut also enacted a ban that goes into effect on January 1, 2028.

For residents of states that have not yet passed bans, use the searchable database to find out which brands to avoid. Brands that do not provide disclosure, such as HexClad, should also be avoided. Also avoid ceramic cookware, which may contain other toxic coatings.

Lab-grown cheese companies such as Netherlands-based Those Vegan Cowboys, France-based Standing Ovation, and Britain-based Better Dairy, plan on launching their lab-grown products in the United States. As usual, the U.S. FDA requires no long-term safety testing, rubber-stamping these products as the agency has already done with lab-grown chicken and lab-grown fish. Meanwhile, these same companies won't be able to launch their products in the EU for at least 3 to 4 more years. Why? Because EU regulations require a bit more scrutiny for novel foods. But here in the U.S., the FDA continues to allow companies, in this case foreign corporations, to self-approve their own products, allowing Americans to be the lab rats.

Say it ain't so. Recently the FDA approved a GMO pig for human consumption. Now, the FDA just approved lab-grown salmon for human consumption. The cell-cultured, salmon-like product, developed by a company called Wildtype, is already selling the stuff to Kann Restaurant in Portland, Oregon.
