Good morning #SpiderSky - which I hope is a thing - could I please ask for help identifying this lovely mother-to-be? Found her under a mat while removing some ivy and hoping we’ve not upset her too much. South coast of England, shady spot, about the size of a 50p, if that helps with identification?
Heading up to Bedford Central Library today to talk to Georgia Bowers about her latest novel ‘Foes & Cons’, a YA romcom about fandom, set at a convention for a fictional vampire show that is definitely not Buffy! Georgia is then headed off to @cecomicsuk.bsky.social to sign copies of the book!
I am operating on nowhere near enough sleep today, but I had a wonderful time at the @orbitbooks.bsky.social event last night, and got the opportunity to fangirl at @emilytesh.net who was extremely gracious in the face of my enthusiastic flailing! Also, I wore feathers. This may need to happen again

Can anyone identify this plant? I believe it is growing somewhere in the UK, but my mum sent me this photo that she was sent by a friend, so I can’t be much more precise, sadly. Is #PlantSky a thing? Or #GardenSky?
Yesterday we had friends over to play board games, and I cooked far too much food, and we laughed and joked all day, and it was glorious. I’m going to try and hold onto that feeling, because the world is a lot right now and I struggle. I hope you can spend time with someone you love this week.
Do I have mushroom friends here? My mum found these this morning in her garden, and was wondering if anyone can help identify them? Wondering they’d be bad for her garden visitors (birds, hedgehogs, foxes), and if so should they be removed?
After the session Josh and Holly will be at Close Encounters, Bedford to sign books - which can be preordered through the shop! Tickets are free, but need to be booked in advance; www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/authors-ho...
Snog, Marry, Kill?! This Saturday at Bedford Central Library, I will be joined by Sunday Times best-selling author Holly Race and Bram Stoker Award nominee Josh Winning for the ultimate bookish showdown - which genre is better: horror or fantasy?!
Can’t Spell Treason Without Tea by Rebecca Thorne What an utterly beautiful warm hug of a book! This one has it all: secret queer romance, mystery, dragons, baking, and my personal favourite: puns! So many puns…
Roots of My Fears - edited by Gemma Amor A collection of short stories looking at heritage and horror, this is at times disturbing, unsettling and thought-provoking. Released today from Titan Books, and featuring a host of top names from the genre.
Service Model by Adrian Tchaikovsky Another hit from the master of sci-fi for me, this is a fun romp through a dystopian future that is looking all too possible right now. Yes, I acknowledge that “fun romp” and “dystopian future” are oxymoronic, just trust me. Or, even better, trust Tchaikovsky!
Plus I got to pick up this awesome Matt Ferguson print on my way out, so now I can see the first family any time I want to! What more could a girl ask for?!
I realise that trying to find pockets of joy in the world right now isn’t helping on a wide scale but also I need to not give in to despair. So here is my current progress on a baby owlbear cross stitch. They look so derpy. I love them.
The Calculating Stars by Mary Robinette Kowal First novel in the ‘Lady Astronaut’ series, this is a charming alternate history story, which sees the 1950s hit (literally) with a world changing event.
The pre-order campaign for The Second Death of Locke by VL Bovalino is now open, with Close Encounters in Bedford! Pre-order before 22nd September (or while stock is available) to receive a signed and personalised copy of the hardback, two character art cards, and a bookmark.
MCM London was an absolute blast. I’ll try to remember to do a proper recap in the week, but for today my heart is full, my feet are on fire, and my voice is just about working. Please enjoy these photos of my two modes: pretending I’m a professional, and being an idiot. There is no middle ground.
All attempts at looking human have ceased I’m attempting to created airflow via my knees Pray for my feet
Upcoming panel at MCM London - Space, Vampires and Time Travel: Writing in Genre Fiction I’ll be heading to the Writers Block stage on Saturday afternoon to chat with Adrian Tchaikovsky, Ren Hutchings, Helen Glynn Jones and Gareth L Powell, to talk all things genre fiction!
