Good thumbnail images. Whether stills or screenshots, if you want a thumbnail as part of my edit, give me some options. They tend to look best with lots of eye contact, visible penetration, room for text, good composition. Best if the top of the star's head is not cut off, especially for DVD covers.

On that note, once you find a good frame, hold that frame. Very often, I'll see the videographer sort of "seeking" a good shot, find it, very clearly notice they found it because they hold it, but only for about 5 seconds, then they go back to "seeking" again for no reason. Just hold it.

Frame your shot appropriately. For straight porn, do not sacrifice visibility on the woman to get more of the man in frame. The example on the right here will interrupt the audience's flow and needs to be removed from the scene. That makes the end product messier with extra mid-position cuts/crops.

If you are doing dialogue, especially setting up a real plot, get your microphone as close as you can to your actors. Make sure they speak very clearly. Make sure the microphone's volume is set correctly. Most dialogue in scenes I edit is basically impossible to figure out.

Up next, get me some footage where your star makes eye contact with the camera. Try and get at least a few seconds in each position like this. These shots are used for thumbnails, previews, DVD covers, and ads. The eye contact gets a higher click through rate, so it's very important.

Up first is room tone. Record 30 seconds with nothing happening, in whatever room you are using, with whatever microphone you're using. No voices, no movements. I use this to key out background hum. Extra important when the air conditioner has to stay on.

Here is a thread of things your editor (me) wants you to do while filming. Yes, I can do the edit without them, but I want to give you the very best, and these will go a long way to help.
