Nostalgia time. Article in the British Newspaper Archive from May 1954. My friend and I can still sing the pieces but what I remember best is the teachers buying us fish suppers for lunch and getting the police to inform parents at pick up point that we wouldn’t be back at the expected time.

Having to take it easy after yet another fall, so bingeing on ‘A Scots Quair’ trilogy on iPlayer. Long time since I read it (copy cost £3.50 in 1974) and it definitely doesn’t cheer me up. Still to watch the ‘Grey Granite’ episodes, which are the grimmest of them all.

1931 Alvis. Every time we pass that spot there’s a different vintage car.

Lots of rain yesterday, so didn’t go out to get soaked. Dry with occasional sunshine so far today. Managed to do first walk of the day.

First small tortoiseshell I‘ve seen this summer. On our rampant buddleia yesterday.

A mocktail and a cosmopolitan at Herringbone, Abbeyhill, Edinburgh. Just waiting for another two grandchildren to arrive tonight. Will be a bit crowded!

Looking forward to meeting my oldest friend for lunch tomorrow. So many memories going back over 80 years. Spouses won’t get a word in.

Another July family anniversary. Ninety years ago #OTD in 1936, my parents were married in the Tullichewan Hotel, Balloch.

My aunt Mary was born on Bastille Day in 1898. She lived in six reigns and died in 1997.

My favourite is Black Forest Bundt cake but have tried lots over the years. Somewhat lazy nowadays.

Just been to the beautiful gardens near us, at Drummond Castle. Sundial was put up in 1630.

Today is our 59th anniversary. The church was knocked down years ago, the hotel closed but we are still just about hingin’ thegither.

#StainedGlass Once the Conservative Club in Princes Street, Edinburgh, then Debenhams and now site of a major fire overnight. Window in memory of Disraeli, by James Ballantine and Son. Probably now destroyed.

#OTD 7th July, 94 years ago, in 1932, my aunt (1898-1997), from #Alexandria and uncle (1899-1970), from #Dumbarton, were married at the Tullichewan Hotel in #Balloch. Have some memorabilia, including bride’s headdress and banners from cake.

First Sweet Jessica rose of the summer. Given to us in memory of our beloved granddaughter.

On Saturday 27th June at 2pm, come along to hear about the sacrifices of the service personnel buried or memorialised in Crieff Cemetery. Free entry. Several local women are remembered.

Bought these dahlias for half price at a local supermarket and hope I’ve managed to rescue them.
