The new Hall of Famers’ plaques. They originally signed the wall when visiting earlier in the year, and the plaques were placed this weekend. The Hall will bring Kent’s to his number retirement ceremony at Oracle Park next month.
This year’s Hall of Fame award winners Paul Hoynes (BBWAA Career Excellence Award), Joe Buck (Ford C. Frick Award) and Bill White (Buck O’Neil Award). Rick Monday also honored 50 years after saving the flag.
Calm before the storm in Cooperstown, where Jeff Kent, Andruw Jones and Carlos Beltran will be inducted into the Hall of Fame this weekend.
Nice moment before last night’s game with Mike Yastrzemski, representing the Heart and Armor Foundation, meeting several military veterans and their children. Also involved in the foundation: the great Bill Greason, 101, who pitched for the Cardinals and Birmingham Black Barons.
Letter from Giants to those who reached out to the team regarding Pride Night:
Gary Pettis, Giants’ new third base coach. Grew up in Oakland with Rickey, Stew and Moseby. Went to Candlestick a lot. Favorite player was Mays. It’s why he wore 24 as a player.
A major reason Giants 2B Luis Arraez greatly improved his defense and ranks third in majors in outs above average is his daily work with Ron Washington. Forehand, backhand, different hops, angles, spins, standing, kneeling, out of Wash’s hand, off Wash’s bat. All paying off.
Giants lineup. Casey Schmidt gets a break. Jung Hoo Lee - RF Luis Arraez - 2B Heliot Ramos - LF Rafael Devers - 1B Bryce Eldridge - DH Willy Adames - SS Matt Chapman - 3B Drew Gilbert - CF Jesús Rodríguez - C Robbie Ray - LH
Giants at Dodger Stadium tonight: RF Lee, 2B Arraez, 1B Schmitt, DH Devers, LF Ramos, SS Adames, 3B Chapman, CF Bader, C Rodriguez. RH McDonald on the mound.
Willie Mays and cake always went together every May 6. For his 89th birthday, this was the one from the celebration at his house. Coolest thing ever. Today would have been Willie’s 95th. The world misses the Say Hey Kid, the greatest ever.
One of the coolest rooms at the Hall of Fame showcases the New Inductees Exhibit. Here is part of Jeff Kent’s exhibit. Pretty cool that he loaned his 2000 MVP award with the Giants to the museum for this purpose.
Tony Vitello’s reaction to the final out in his first win as a big-league manager
When you have a combined 4,435 regular-season wins as future Hall of Fame managers and now work as advisers in Buster Posey’s front office. Dusty Baker and Bruce Bochy together in spring training, Giants royalty.
“Emergency has been reported” at Scottsdale Stadium. Robbie Ray keeps pitching. Fans confused. Umps say play on. Wild moment in the Cactus League. Check out this video.
Giants’ first full-squad workout, and the new manager breaks off to sign some autographs.
