Happy Nonbinary People's Day! 💛🤍💜🖤 I'm a nonbinary author of queer SFF. You can assume all my characters are some flavor of queer unless stated otherwise. But my queerest book, with a shy nonbinary elf mage as love interest, is Tea & Treachery at the Infinite Pantry: books2read.com/tea-treachery
I want to share some of the lovely things early readers have said about it, starting with this from Samantha Mills that to me captures the essence of it:
I packed this story full of things I love and blended together genres I adore. In a nutshell, it's Narnia in space. It's got characters fighting against injustice, but also the nostalgia and sense of wonder that brought so many of us to these genres in the first place.
3. Or get it direct from the publisher at a $5 discount -- plus you'll get a free sticker, bookmark, and a handwritten postcard from me as a thank-you for preordering: hornedlarkpress.com/product/the-...
My book has STICKERS, folks, how cool is this?!? Aren't these the greatest little guys?
I love stories that blend multiple things I love to make something new and strange (and wonderful). Things that may not fit tidily into a category are sometimes the more fun and interesting. If that's your jam too, check out The Final Chronicle of Yeneh: hornedlarkpress.com/product/the-...
Mashing up genres is like fusion cuisine. "Taste this! It shouldn't work, but it's delicious!" Yeneh is a sci-fi base with weird solarpunk vegetables, some subtle Regency herbs, and a thick gooey layer of portal fantasy cheese on top, served in a big bowl of anti-colonialism.
And if you want to bask in literary tea appreciation (preferably with a cup at hand, the tea in Tea & Treachery at the Infinite Pantry is about a lot more than caffeinating. It's about comfort, and love, and taking care of each other. Maybe tea CAN fix everything?? books2read.com/tea-treachery
Oh hey, it's International Tea Day! I am maaaaaybe a little obsessed with tea (it's no accident that it's in the title of my most recent book -- the book started as an excuse to describe lots of teas and food!) so how about a thread of some of my favorite tea shops?
Getting Infinite Pantry book 2 into shape to send my critique group next week. More food! More feels! More found family! Folks have asked, and yes, it'll be a series! But book 1, Tea & Treachery, stands on its own. No cliffhangers. No reason to wait to read it! books2read.com/tea-treachery #booksky
Who will I see at #Balticon this weekend?? I'm staying at the hotel this year so I can actually hang out and not spend all my energy commuting. I'm excited for the launch party for *Tea & Treachery at the Infinite Pantry*!!! You don't want to miss it -- there'll be tea and yummy things 🍪🫖
Do your weekend plans involve baking? Or tea? (Hopefully not treachery!) After a week of book launch and travel, I'm looking forward to a cozy weekend in, hopefully with baked goods. If that's your vibe too, I've got a cozy weekend read for you: www.jomiles.com/tea-treacher... #cozyfantasy #booksky

6. Found family. The Infinite Pantry is the place I want to go live when the world is dark—and bring some of it back into the real world with me. The Pantry staff are a quirky, queer, diverse bunch who love each other *because* of their differences and have each other’s backs no matter what.
As a museum dedicated to food, the Infinite Pantry uses magic to let visitors experience the smells of their collection, from a rare heirloom tomato to an ancient emperor's birthday cake. Scent is a crucial of eating for humans. Without smell, nothing tastes as good. It's tied up in memory too.
Reproduced historical smells. Preserving smells that are being lost to climate change. This is fascinating: How often do we think about how history smells? This article just came out, but touches on a lot I was thinking about with The Infinite Pantry: (1/ ) www.smithsonianmag.com/science-natu...
The giveaway prize is halfway assembled. A couple more things to add. I'm having lots of fun picking out themed goodies that fit the book! (If you've preordered, don't forget to enter the giveaway! forms.gle/q2t2n28NAheg...)
Just under 1 month (26 days, but who's counting? Me, I'm counting) until you can visit The Infinite Pantry for yourself! Until then, here's a little amuse-bouche to whet your appetite. Preorder it here: www.jomiles.com/tea-treacher...
