It's Transgender Day of Remembrance, where we remember those of us that haven't made it this far. Last year I did feel comfortable saying anything as I'd just spent a year hiding who I was. I'm not great at this kind of thing but I'll tell my story. Since I came out I have lost multiple careers I worked hard to have, I have seen my family worsen and treat my identity as less than true, I have been forced out of a place I thought of as home because of who I am. I have been threatened, I have been harassed, I have been dismissed. More than once I have thought about becoming another name that would be remembered today.

I am so glad that I never did.

Since I have come out and been myself I have been loved, supported and known for the real me by the people actually worth caring about. I have known a joy in my heart, and a love for myself that was impossible while I denied who I was. Is the good worth the bad I've suffered? Is it worth the constant fight as we push back the dying throes of hateful ideology?

Yes. A hundred, thousand times yes.

Today we remember brothers, sisters and siblings that have been lost along the way, but just as much as that, I want every single one of you to know that the fight is worth it. Every day, through every struggle, it's worth it.

Today we remember, and every day we work to make sure the list of names doesn't grow longer.
