On the bank

Face pressed against the porous willow weave of time
I watch Li Po write.

Threads of rice paper dangle from the parchment on his lap
robed in soft white rabbit skin.

Boar bristle brush in one hand, wine cup in the other,
he gives voice to a crane flying over marshland,

a shadow cast by a friend’s goodbye,
a city’s swollen streets.

But it is the moonlight he most adores.
When she shines on him, he toasts her

or raises his sword to defend her honor.
She is the unspoken beauty

he floats down the Yangzi River to follow;
the one who sings in his heart. I close my eyes to listen.

Snow falls.

The highway never answered back.
What did I expect? The teasing squeal of my car tires (like those that came before and those that will come after) crush its asphalt spine into silent submission. Even if it wanted to rise up and push back, it can't.

“The easy way isn’t how to get yourself out.” Nestled inside the window frame near mine, stretched evenly across the dual pane, she tells me to suck it up; take hold of myself and push, really push hard against the mesh screen that keeps me from escaping.
I ask if relief must be complicated, wondering why she doesn’t do that herself; doesn’t throw herself at the wire, let it scrape her skin the way it will mine?
Between us a simple silence coats the wall we share in a room divided by differing views. Mine, what’s beyond the front lawn. Hers, the latched door of the enclosed porch.

Here's a look at the #publicart display in #Madrid. I am so so pleased to be in this exhibit. 5 artboards 350+ #artists 53 countries.

This Expo Metro digital screen display - public art - 32x32 ft - is a live public art display in Madrid. 11 rows of images on each of the artboards in the plaza. Mine is fifth from the left row 5.

Rooted is my mixed media art sculpture on display. The trunk is a daisy branch painted with chalk and oil pastels, resting a top a pastel round of redwood.

transforms naked wood to sky.
With brushstrokes. Cyan. Magenta.
When yellow sun throws light. Day bright.
And dusk, red gusting, promiscuous.
Stirs a commotion of waves.
Dissolves in water blue as wind.
To sit on a chair possessed by sky.
Straight-backed. Rooted. Leaning
against a wall. While all around.
A restless tableau. Light or saturated.
Bends and bonds and burdens. A loop of days
transcendent. Telling the story of weather.
