I like to make pictures and go on nature walks. Toronto, Canada | she/her Website: Store: Prints: No AI Open for commissions!
I used all my own reference photos and observations for drawing and painting this. Here is the particular song sparrow photo I referred to that I took on the Toronto Islands. I have a million photos that aren't particularly good as photos but great drawing references!
I finished my song sparrow and Ontario spring ephemeral watercolour and gouache painting 8x10". Plants featured are listed in the alt text. available from my InPrnt shop: www.inprnt.com/gallery/kate... #sciart #birdart #botanicalart
Very close to finishing this watercolour and gouache painting of Ontario spring ephemerals and a song sparrow. #sciart #botanicalart #birdart #birding
Dot got her RHDV vaccine today. Here she is lounging in her carrier on the way home from the vets. She's been with us for almost a year. She's a very sweet old lady now she's settled in and trusts us.
A recent painting I made with some observations from June ravine walks. Watercolours, gouache and some additions done by hand in ProCreate. I wasn't sure about this picture but I was working on it and my husband walked by and said 'thats nice' :) #sciart #natureart #botanicalart
A photo of wild beebalm I took the other day in Biidaasige Park in Toronto if you aren't familiar with the plant.
A little watercolour, ink and gouache painting of a brown belted bumblebee on wild beebalm (Monarda fistulosa). It's one of my favourite flowers. 5x4" on paper. I've been making efforts to learn more about insects this summer. #sciart #floralart #bumblebee #flowers
A recent painting of chickadees on golden rod in early autumn that I made recently. Watercolours and gouache on paper with some touch ups done by hand in Procreate 8x10". I used my own photos and observations from my walks as reference. #sciart #birdart #birding #natureart
A poster I made for a show at The Flat Top in Toronto. It's tomorrow night and if you're interested you can check them out on Instagram @ theflattop.
I've been watching a few bird families grow up this spring and summer (from a respectful distance). Here is a bossy Northern Mockingbird fledgling I've been observing in a parking lot beside some train tracks.
Here's the finished painting that I posted a progress picture of yesterday. Mayapples, Virgina bluebells and bloodroot on a spring forest floor. Drawn from photos I've taken on my walks in ravines. Watercolours and gouache on paper 8x10" #sciart #botanicalart
I haven't been on social media much, which has been good for my mental health. I'm still painting. This is what's currently in progress on my easel. An spring forest floor in Ontario with mayapples, bloodroot and Virginia bluebells. #botanicalart
If you missed the event tonight all the creators will be at @torontocomics.bsky.social this weekend. Some at their own tables and/or at @inservicecomics.bsky.social table doing signings!
I was really happy with this picture I took of a Northern Yellow Warbler at Tommy Thompson Park the other day. #birding #birdphotography #birdart #sciart
A recent portrait I painted for a client of their rabbit Ella. This portrait of cosmic Ella was to match another one of a black bunny I painted that coincidentally looked exactly like their other bunny. Acrylic on wood panel 6x6". #rabbitpainting #petportrait #rabbitart #bunny
I have mostly been birdwatching like it's my job for the past week. I've seen so many cool birds. I know grackles are common and don't excite a lot of people but look how pretty and shiny they are in the sunlight. Taken at Colonel Sam Smith Park.
A little commissioned painting (5"x7") of a bunny friend making banana pancakes. Painted with watercolours and gouache. Thank you Lilly. I'm open for commissions and pet portraits. #rabbitportrait #rabbitart #petportrait
Went out early to look for birds this morning. Highlights were a Scarlet Tanager and my first warbler sighting of the year a Tennessee Warbler. Other nice observations were an Eastern Cottontail and lots of Virginia Bluebells in bloom. What interesting flora or fauna did you see recently? #birds
Happy #kidlitartpostcard day! I wouldn't trust this little bun with any important letters. I love painting animals, nature and cozy scenes. My portfolios are at www.katedaviesillustration.ca #kidlitart #rabbitart
The two paintings side by side. I don't think this idea has run its course. I'm not haunted by rabbits I just like it. Going for a Watership Down story vibe.
Another painting of some spirit bunnies. This was going to be a night scene but then I started painting and changed the moon to a sun. Watercolours and gouache on paper 8x10" with some digital edits to the contrast in the sky. #rabbitart #watercolour
Dot helping me pack up a commissioned painting yesterday to mail out. #rabbit #houserabbit #rescuerabbit
The prompt for day 30 of #repostyourart is whimsical. I feel like these two royal friends are pretty whimsical. I painted this a few years ago as a commissioned gift. Gouache on paper 8x10" #catportrait #dogportrait
Day 28 of #repostyourart and the prompt is cottage. Here's a painting of my dearly departed best pal Rumsey. She's made a pie and is cooling it at a cottage window. I often totally ignore scale when I make pictures. Is the cottage tiny or is she huge? #watercolour #rabbitart

Today is my tiny hamster friend Ed's birthday. He is 1 year old! We adopted him from the Humane Society 11 months ago. His mum was surrendered to them pregnant and he was born in foster care. He will get his favourite treats today - broccoli, sunflower seed and flax.
Today's #repostyourart prompt is magic. This is a watercolour of Gandalf the bunny as Gandalf the grey that I made for a client. The background is an ode to Tolkien's own artwork of Rivendell. 8x10" #tolkien #lotr #rabbitportrait #watercolour #gandalf
