It feels important to say there are no details about how many children they expect to benefit from this in specific areas, including where Micron is based.

The investment is part of the new federal Trump Accounts initiative and includes a one-time $250 contribution for eligible children, along with a new employee benefit matching up to $1,000 per child. Micron said the funding could benefit up to 1 million children nationwide.

“At Micron, we believe investing in people is as important as investing in technology,” said Sanjay Mehrotra, Micron Chairman, President, and CEO. “As America celebrates its 250th anniversary, this investment is about helping children build a strong foundation for future opportunity while supporting the workforce and communities that will shape U.S. semiconductor leadership. We appreciate President Trump and Secretary Bessent for establishing these accounts, which give Micron another meaningful way to support children and families as they plan for the future.”

Micron did not immediately say how many Idaho children are expected to benefit or what portion of the funding will be spent in the state. Micron said the payments will go to “eligible residents of ZIP codes” in Ada, Boise, Canyon, Elmore and Gem counties.

Micron said the program is the latest piece of its broader U.S. workforce strategy, which also includes its previously announced $200 billion investment in domestic memory manufacturing and research, including a second memory fabrication plant at its headquarters in Boise, as BoiseDev reported.

I order grocery pickups almost every week from Fred Meyer. I've been noticing creeping differences in how much they quote me for meat online versus what's charged at the final total. They don't ask me if a higher price is OK, they just put it in there. This time around, I ordered a flank steak.
