At Hazel Grove allotments open day yesterday, where I bought a coffee table made by the excellent Marple Men in Sheds. #LisaSmartMP #constituency #community #support
☕️ Put my barista skills to the test at the new Costa Coffee store in Sainsbury's Hazel Grove and heard about Costa's plans to continue supporting local communities.
🚜 Joined local farmers and the National Farmers Union at Higher Farm on #farm24 day to discuss food security, backing British farmers and protecting our countryside.
🏭 Visited KNDS in Stockport to meet its skilled workforce and hear about the world-leading manufacturing on our doorstep, a boost to our local economy.
🎱 Met veterans at SAFCO before trying my hand at snooker with the brilliant No Tier Snooker group at Hazel Grover Snooker Club, for those living with early-onset dementia.
It's been a busy couple of weeks since Parliament went into summer recess. Here's a quick roundup of what I've been up to this week: 🏳️🌈 Proudly marched at Stockport Pride. Following the tragic attack at Berlin Pride the night before, it was a powerful reminder of why we still need Pride.
“We cannot allow the rules that protect our democracy from corruption and sleaze to be disregarded by senior politicians – including those from Reform UK.” www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...
As a non-snooker player, the welcoming and accepting No Tier Snooker Club was a great introduction. Designed for people with dementia, the club in Hazel Grove has a wonderful approach to just letting people get on and enjoy themselves. You can find our more at notiersnooker.co.uk/locations/ha...
Thank you to the Hazel Grove Army Veterans for meeting with me yesterday. I have spent a considerable time with the armed forces recently with the Armed Forces Parliamentary Scheme. With all the instability in the world, we must prepare our armed forces well, and look after our veterans better.

Thanks to everyone who made Hazel Grove Carnival a wonderful day last weekend. It's events like this that help make this the finest constituency in the land. #LisaSmartMP #constituency #community #support
Thanks to Shan and Colin, two of our Marple South and High Lane councillors, at Make It Marple at the weekend. I dropped in for a while, and will be attending as much as I can over the summer Parliamentary recess. Drop my office a line if you have something going on #LisaSmartMP #constituency
"We have long said the obscene sums earmarked for digital ID would be a huge waste of taxpayers' money, and it's a relief that Burnham has woken up to that.” Burnham to scrap digital ID to focus on 'helping with cost of living' www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
Postal votes are now landing with people - and you have two choices. I’m backing Richard Kilpatrick. But you can also use your second choice vote as a backup, for example to make sure that an extreme candidate doesn’t get in. 🔶🗳️1️⃣➕
🎙️ Joined the panels on LBC Cross Question and ITV Granada Debates. 🕯️ Joined local Lib Dem colleagues and the Hazel Grove Muslim Association to remember the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.
🏫 Answered some excellent questions from pupils at Hazel Grove Primary School and welcomed the High Lane WI to Parliament. 🏛️ Called on the Government to tighten the rules on political donations and sort out the mess with civil service pensions.
It’s been another busy week in Parliament and, while Westminster has been full of distractions, I’ve stayed focused on getting things done. This week I: 📈 Marked two years since I was elected to Parliament and hit 20,000 local issues raised with my office.
I was invited recently by RUSI – a UK defence and security think tank – to debate the influence of foreign investment and cryptocurrency on our democracy. It is vital for our national security that we ensure that our country is better protected from overseas influence in our politics.
Cases like this, where a resident got in touch about being a "DES daughter" are very specialist, but being able to raise it directly with the Minister is very important. #LisaSmartMP #NHS #SteppingHill #Health Read the full exchange at hansard.parliament.uk/Commons/2026...
The Home Office must do more to cut the waiting times on administrative reviews of visa applications. buff.ly/L0oi9nb
Stockport missed out on additional funding this year by just 0.1%, despite having the most deprived area in Greater Manchester. I stood up in a debate this week to make it clear that I don't agree with the Government's decision. #LisaSmartMP #constituency #support Full debate: buff.ly/y90BeUT
In a debate this week on regeneration for Reddish, I challenged the minister over the Government's failure to fund social care, which means that local councils, such as Stockport, do not have the money to spend on other essentials. #LisaSmartMP #constituency #support Full debate buff.ly/jqjDKsw
Good to see progress being made on the renovation of the play area at Woodbank Park.
It was a busy weekend this weekend. My MP surgery, which gives me the chance to speak to local residents face to face about individual issues; Greenstock at Woodbank Park; and then over to the Mellor Church Fete. Hazel Grove constituency covers a large area, and it's great to see so much of it.
It is the anniversary of the equal franchise – and we're approaching the 100th anniversary in 2028. Parliament is making steps towards better representation of everyone, and long may that work continue. #LisaSmartMP #HazelGrove #Westminster #Parliament
Parliamentary time is always a balancing act, but where possible, finding out more about disorders such as Pica is important, particularly as I know there are residents in Hazel Grove who have affected children. #LisaSmartMP #Health #Pica
🎪 Gave the tombola and hoopla a whirl at Lisburne School’s summer fair before celebrating Marple Carnifest with the groups that make our area so special.
🛠️ Popped in to meet the talented volunteers at High Lane’s Eco Repair Shop, where everything from tools to clothes is given a new lease of life.
