Kimura Heitarō - commander of the Burma Area Army from August 1944, was a very different beast to his predecessor; willing to be tactically flexible to gain strategic advantage he proved to be a formidable opponent. And a war criminal responsible for the Burma Railway and deaths of 1000s of PoWs.

81st and 82nd West African Division, and 11th East African Division fought with distinction in the Burma campaign, doing things thought to be next to impossible by higher command, including long range patrols that were far more effective than the much celebrated Chindits.
