Sales of Meta Ray-Ban glasses tripled in 2025, and Meta told us that users "are responsible for complying with all applicable laws and for using Ray-Ban Meta glasses in a safe, respectful manner." Unfortunately, you can expect to see a lot more content like this as smart glasses go mainstream.
When we reached out to Facebook, they banned two of the accounts we flagged. Of course, filming in public is legal — and creeps know it.
Some of the videos clearly cross lines. Creator "minddecaycam" pretends to have intellectual disabilities to con his way into fire stations and airplane cockpits. Pickup artists film women without their consent, only for their followers to dogpile the women in the comments.
Lawyers say there's nothing you can do about it in most cases. But creator Brad_Podray told us that's not the point. "I know it’s legal. I don’t care...I think it’s weird and creepy, and it shows a very predatory mindset."
The videos all have one thing in common: They prove that anyone can become the unwitting star of someone else's social video. Consent doesn't enter into it at all.
We regret to inform you that pickup artists and pranksters have discovered Meta Ray-Ban smart glasses. They're creeping on women on the street, bothering firefighters at work, and harassing retail workers for content. (🧵1/7)
