Fun fact: some of them had no name on the headstock at all, which is why collectors and enthusiasts started calling them "Nocasters."
However, due to claims made by Gretsch, Fender had to rename the guitar the Telecaster — the company already had a Broadkaster drum line. It is estimated that around 200–250 guitars were produced under the old name.
The Broadcaster came loaded with everything a guitarist could want: an ash body with a sleek blonde finish, a rock-solid maple neck, two punchy pickups, and three distinct tone settings to dial in your sound. It was exactly the kind of no-nonsense instrument that put Fender firmly on the map.
In the late 1940s, Leo Fender was struck with the idea of creating a guitar that prioritized utility and practicality over aesthetics. In 1950, the world saw a new model of the instrument — the Fender Broadcaster.

📖 From the 1936 Rickenbacker Catalog: “The Spanish Electro Guitar is small in size and is exceedingly easy to finger and hold. The finger board has fourteen frets to the body, and owing to the small-size body, the player may easily play up to the twenty-fourth fret.
🥇 It was the first commercially produced American-made electric guitar with a standard rounded neck. The instrument produced a thick tone, thanks to its large magnet and powerful magnetic field, which gave it a creamy, fat sound.
