I will never stop fighting until we end street homelessness, because no Angeleno should be sleeping on the street.

As a lifelong biker and native Angeleno, I know how important open street events like CicLAvia are to our city and the L.A. region. I’ve participated in many CicLAvias over the years, in neighborhoods all across Los Angeles.

For two years straight, we drove down homelessness by historic margins, but as expected, last year our efforts ultimately couldn’t keep up with policies and funding cuts at the federal and state levels that pushed more people onto the streets.

We know that people overwhelmingly want transit advocate/rider representation on the LA Metro Board. Today, we voted to make that happen.

No Angeleno should be living on our streets. That’s why we’ve changed how Los Angeles responds to homelessness, not just by helping people come indoors, but by truly addressing the housing crisis.

Metro Ready — Showing the world that L.A. can deliver a world class transit system. This is my commitment to you as Metro Chair, to build a system that connects Angelenos to the places, people, and communities that matter to them.

Metro Safe — Deploying civilian response teams to house Angelenos and connect people with mental health services. Metro Reliable — Increasing service during peak traffic hours to get riders to their destinations on time.

Los Angeles is a public transit city, and we're proving it every day. Today, I was honored to accept the gavel to serve as Chair of the Metro Board, laying out my four priorities over the next year. Metro Affordable — Setting LA on a path to make Metro free for everyone.

Oceanwide Plaza sits at the center of one of Downtown Los Angeles’ most important economic corridors, linking the Convention Center, Crypto.com Arena, LA LIVE, and the broader South Park district.

Today, that work lives on through my Office of Community Safety which helps deliver programs like Summer Night Lights, dedicated civilian crisis response, and other investments to help keep Angelenos safe. Because public safety isn’t just about responding to emergencies. It’s about preventing them.

The best city programs start by listening to the people on the ground doing the work. Crisis intervention and prevention has been my life’s work. Before I became Mayor, I worked alongside families in South Los Angeles to build community-led solutions to prevent violence.

Every family deserves access to healthy food. Today I joined volunteers at the Weingart East LA YMCA to help distribute groceries to Boyle Heights residents and thank the people who have shown up week after week to serve their community.

He never stopped believing that ordinary people could build a more just America. Los Angeles was honored to welcome him many times, and his message of justice and love continues to inspire our city. In South L.A., he reminded us that the fight for justice begins in our own communities.

Six years ago, we lost my dear friend and colleague, Congressman John Lewis. I had the privilege of serving alongside John in Congress and witnessed firsthand the humility, courage, and moral clarity that defined his life.

L.A. is for everyone!

Once complete, Viva L.A. will provide more than 3,000 units of affordable housing for seniors in Woodland Hills. With nearly 47,000 affordable housing units now in the pipeline under ED1, we’re moving with urgency to tackle the affordability crisis and accelerate housing production citywide.

I signed Executive Directive 1 during my first week as Mayor to accelerate and lower the cost of building affordable housing across Los Angeles. This week, we announced the largest affordable housing project approved under my directive to date. It’s historic.

For more than 70 years, Sweet Alice has been there for the people of Watts, helping families celebrate the Fourth of July with dignity and joy. Together, we'll continue working to support Angelenos and strengthen our communities.

I am not waiting for private corporations to do the right thing. I am using the power of government to deliver real support directly to Boyle Heights and making sure residents have the resources they need, where and when they need them.

For 100 years, the Los Angeles Central Library has been at the heart of our city, a place where generations of Angelenos have come to learn and imagine what’s possible. The Central Library has shaped countless lives and continues to serve every corner of our city.

For 45 years, the Lotus Festival has celebrated the cultures, traditions, and communities that make Los Angeles one of the most diverse cities in the world.

It was great to join hundreds of Angelenos and Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez at MacArthur Park for Kick it in the Park, one of the 100+ free FIFA World Cup watch parties bringing the excitement of the tournament to neighborhoods across Los Angeles.

For 100 years, the Los Angeles Central Library has been a place where generations of Angelenos have come to learn, explore, and imagine what’s possible.

Free support is coming directly to the Boyle Heights community. Residents affected by the Lineage warehouse fire can visit mobile health clinics this week for respiratory screenings, mental health support, health assessments, and connections to additional care. No appointment is necessary.
