For instance, the creation and exploration of these two ideas from rough concept to my current idea (which may change again) represents 5 hours of work sketching, exploring and changing. I will be happy when this portion takes a bit less time and struggle.
...also technically I am going to end up doing 500 boxes because I decided to do it on paper on my lunch break at work so I can get properly graded. >.> I do still count it against my total hours studying.
And looking at these lines, it is possible to be discouraged. You have to remind yourself that >>making these boxes perfect is not the point<< Even if there's no improvement to the boxes you make, you'll see the impact on your actual work.
Before drawing each set of boxes, you check convergences to vanishing points of the previous set and try to evaluate where you can adjust your approach. (The dramatic convergences have vanishing points that should be on the page, the shallow ones are off the page.)
It's taunting me. ...I feel compelled to mention that this challenge isn't /really/ about drawing the boxes. It's not even about perspective. It's about estimating where vanishing points converge.

Rough sketch based on a suggestion from @honeypot25a.bsky.social. Jaden here is the result of a merging with a tanuki, who became the lower half. As a result, his lower half has a mind of its own. A much hornier one. It is showing off, much to Jaden's embarrassment.

Ah yes. This is why I look at character references while drawing. Now I remember. Gunther here is owned by Quazy Otter, so he is in for a wild ride.
This particular TF is not usually something I am super about, but I have a particular otter in my ear who is making me think about it. Drawn without any reference. I was surprised how well it turned out. Really need to get back to work with reference so I can do a bit more polish comfortably.

and I feel like 'okay, make a furry character' doesn't live in the same spot in my head as this stuff (yet). The two types of habits sort of leech into each other. Starting to get more comfortable with tail shapes, though. That's nice.
